An amazing Electronica album. Not exactly sure what sub-genre this is, because I'm pretty new to his type of music. Maybe it's IDM, not sure. Anyway, everyone should check this out, it's awesome. One of my favourite albums of the year.

I'm pretty sure the US has more in sheer quantity, but Canada might have the highest ratio of crap artists to brilliant ones. Different strokes.

Liquid Trio Experiment - Spontaneous Combustion (2007)

Quote:
During the recording sessions for their second album, John Petrucci had to leave due to his wife's going into premature labor. During that period, Portnoy, Rudess, and Levin, who still had studio time booked, continued to write music in improvisation. On October 23, 2007, a compilation of jams from those sessions was released under the name of Liquid Trio Experiment. The album, called Spontaneous Combustion, was recorded from Mike Portnoy's DATs of the sessions because the original master tapes disappeared before the mixing stage. A few songs from Liquid Tension Experiment 2 were spawned from these jam sessions, including "914", "Chewbacca", and "Liquid Dreams".

Portnoy is my main focus. Well, how could he not be? The group play together and separately astoundingly well. But I love listening to Portnoy get crazy.

Listened to this the other night and I really liked it, it's from a Zambian psychedelic band from, I think, the 70s. I was pretty stoned though so I should probably listen to it again sober. If anything it's great stoner music!

Looking back I think it's one of those albums that's not really very good, but the atmosphere it gives off makes you overlook a lot of its ****ty qualities.

Kno - Death Is Silent

Wow... just wow. This album grabbed me unlike any other hip hop album to date. Maybe I'm just in a good mood and should wait on repeated listens to rate this, but it's a 5/5 at the moment

I prefer Surrealistic Pillow personally. Tha's a 5 star album from me while After Bathing At Baxters is a 4.5.

Ratt - Infestation (2010)

It's pretty funny that a band ends up cutting its sleaziest and strongest recording some two decades after they were in style. It's also in all likelihood the best glam-metal-anything album to come out since the 90's.

They won't end up on Pitchfork's best of the year, but this is certainly a diggable gem!

If an album that dark can score 5/5 when you're in a good mood I think it means the album is really good, but I'm a CunninLynguists fanboy so that's just me talking.
