I've had this album for quite some time, but bob.'s recent post (mini song review thread?) prompted me to throw it on the 'ol iPod. Really a kickin' album straddling the line between post-hardcore and "alternative rock" in the 90s (more post-hardcore than mainstream, but nearly as accessible as Helmet was around Meantime). Obviously there is some Fugazi influence, but many people - myself included - detect similaries with early Tool. So mash those 3 sounds together - bam. They also often remind me of Fireside, a Swedish post-hardcore band that had a bit less abrasive yet rougher sound - almost like a Quicksand-lite. They released their debut a year after Slip came out - but formed in 92. So if you like this maybe check out Fireside's Fantastic Four (94) and Do Not Tailgate (95).

Mmmm... memories. The 90's were good for something.

hey wasn't Fireside another great revelation band?

i honestly think 'Slip' is one of the greatest albums of the 90s....and Quicksand may be one of the most underrated bands of the 90s

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

I was very interested to get my hands on this (it helped that the person who told me about it was completely psyched), but when I downloaded it, I just had this feeling that all the songs would sound the same and bleed together. Not so. Surprisingly eclectic, each song had me eager to hear what the next one would sound like, how it would be different. A funky/trippy/ambient/jazzy hip hop album...just what I've needed lately.

Thanks Satchmo.

I'm so happy that you like it. It's definitely one of my favorite albums.

Hmm, I don't see anything about Revelation in their catalog. I know their second was re-released on American, and their 3rd was on Crank! (both originally on a Swedish label). Not too sure about the rest.

Women -"Public Strain"

Best album of the year so far. MAYBE better than everything I heard last year too. Like a combination of Swell Maps and "Chairs Missing" era Wire.

I've been meaning to get this, strictly on the strength of "Black Rice" from their first album - because I didn't like the rest of the album all that much. Your comparison so Swell Maps and Wire surprises and interests me. How do you think the album differs from their debut?

Iceburn is a great band. I think you might like them. I only really know their album Hephaestus but it's one of my favorite things I've ever heard released by Revelation. They're like prog/postpunk. Here's some live footage I found..
