I've actually never listened to that much Sonic Youth (beside Daydream Nation, which is a personal favourite album) so I decided to check out more of their albums this weekend. Murray Street is definitely the one sticking out so far, great album. Awesome guitar, very consistent, and lots of interesting noise-ish stuff going on.
Of the ones I've heard this is definitely the most melodic/accessible, so I like it too. The next on my list is Dirty which I downloaded a few weeks ago and will likely play this coming week.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

EDIT: and I listened to The Eternal last year when it came out, didn't do much for me.

Everything about this album is absolutely hilarious - its name, its execution, its vocals, its atonality used for comedic value, its song titles, etcetera, etcetera. In my mind, two things made some Residents albums better than others; longer songs = better album. Also, a concept album = better album. This album has both of those factors, and therefore, it soars. The perfect deconstruction of Rolling Stones, Beatles, and even Iron Butterfly found here all clawing at each other's throats to an almost nonsensical level - it's hilarious and beautiful, like most good art out there. Every time I hear that moaning choir/synth hovering below the guitar solo playing the melody to "Hey Jude" in the COMPLETELY WRONG key, I start laughing and loving this album. Then the guys start saying "WOO WOO!" in the fashion of "Sympathy for the Devil"... It's just priceless. Amazing album.
They may not be everyone's cup of tea but there is a method in their madness and when you are in the mood for it, this album is just priceless and it's use of musical motifs and 'classic' songs is way ahead of it's time.

Neurosis—Times of Grace

and

Tribes of Neurot—Grace

I recently got a hold of a mix of these two albums (for anyone unfamiliar with them, they're intended to be played simultaneously). And all I have to say is: wow. My first listen was tonight, zooming down the highway, car being buffeted by some particularly heavy winds, which seemed like a pretty appropriate setting for experiencing such hard, primal music. Amazing stuff.

Awesome! Times of Grace is one of my favorite albums - I've never gotten around to listening to it with Grace though.

I actually just listened to Times of Grace for the first time today as well, a couple hours before I listened to the two albums together. I liked it a lot but the two albums combined is completely massive and amazing.
