They are post hardcore. What do you like about the album? The band split into 2 different groups after a couple albums (Sparta and the Mars Volta). Sparta is like the hardcore half and the Mars Volta are the progressive half. If you haven't listened to either check out Wiretap Scars (Sparta) and Deloused in the Comatorium (the Mars Volta)

Alltherowboats, judging by your signature, you'd probably like the VHS Head album Trademark Ribbons Of Gold (2010)

I got it a while ago and so far it's my favourite album of 2010. It's very fun.

Have had that for a while; haven't listened to it yet though. Currently listening to "Lady" by Fela though, and that combined with this post makes me eager to hear it soon.

Fela's music has a rhythmic addiction to it like no other.

Eh, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call Sparta hardcore, I'd say they're a lot tamer than At The Drive-In, generally speaking.

Just relatively... I wouldn't count them as hardcore. It just feels like if you took all the hardcore bits out of At the Drive In, they would be The Mars Volta. That's why I referred to Sparta as the hardcore half.

I think Sparta is still considered post-hardcore, but definitely not just "hardcore".

It's odd... I got into Sparta first, then ATDI, and finally The Mars Volta.

Ugh...genre arguments. Haha I was being lazy and leaving out the post part...I mentioned all this was post hardcore in my original post. I think post hardcore obviously has a bunch of hardcore inspiration in it, but I know these guys are post hardcore.

I know what you said in your original post, I was mostly replying because Robert_Arctor was arguing the hardcore-ness, even though you said post-hardcore. ;)

They have a pretty corporate/lite post-hardcore sound for the most part. There's definitely much more aggressive post-hardcore out there. Not arguing anything, just stating my personal interpretation of their sound.
