Decided to revisit AIC's Dirt by making it the "car CD of the week"... the disc that stays in the car for roughly the next week or so... been very much enjoying it as I run errands and go to work!!! Always one to take every opportunity I can to have some music playing!!!

I'll be honest and admit I go the long way to places just to hear more music sometimes, and I just enjoy driving... it also gets me out of the house for fifteen minutes or so when I just need a bit of "self" time away from kids and stuff... don't tell the wife that though... hehehehe.

Was offered up as jazz-pop from the Netherlands, so I took the gamble. While poppier than I'd hoped, the jazz is there and is implemented brilliantly. There's also some good lyrics here, despite there being a fair share songs about the standard relationship bullshit. I went in hoping for something that would sound like late-80's Steely Dan, and while that's not exactly what I got I was pleasantly surprised with an all-in-all damn fine album that I recommend to anyone interested. |

Mizar - Natural Design (2009) Hungarian jazz-pop trio that do a helluva lot of things I enjoy: they bring some of the exotica that certain 80's contemporary jazz groups like The Rippingtons or The Yellowjackets possessed into a punchier, more rhythmic context (a-la early Jamiroquai or Level 42), and then transforms these hand-me-down influences into grand, cohesive focus with entertaining results. Oh, and the chick has a fantastic voice also, if a tad accented due to not being a native English speaker. Gotta love Europe! |
It was a beautiful moment sitting in the cool shade of the stoop of my house avoiding the sweltering august mid-day heat that Houston is notorious for, yet I was drinking hot coffee and chain smoking hand-rolled cigarettes just the same. There's a perfect soundtrack for just such a moment.

Baths - Cerulean Some quality Anticon stuff, equal parts glitchy beats and nice and chilled out with some lovely piano sampling. |
