^ it's brilliant! Hard to pick a favourite track but I think Leb' Wohl could be mine, what a beautiful and relaxing song.

Leb' Wohl is one of my favorites, well, next to Hero. Hero is epic. Who doesn't love some weird german guy yelling in english? it's awesome.

Soundpool - Dichotomies and Dreamland

Covers all your usual shoegaze musts (an ocean of sound, dreamy guitars, vocals that are reverbed out the ass) but throws in a really funky rhythm section adding some real danceability to a lot of their songs. It's not in your face or corny, either...it is just right. It makes their songs incredibly addictive. This is one of the better new shoegaze bands that have popped up in recent years.

Such an icon, Skip James. Been on a real Blues kick recently and Skip is certainly near the top of the pile.

Do you listen to other genres of metal besides black metal? Over the last year I've noticed you really only sticking to black metal and then of course your trance/ electronic music.

I really started to get into metal when I was about 15-16, but that was mostly local stuff to Vancouver and finally then I started exploring the Scandinavian scene. I was always aware of black metal's existence, however I also heard about the church burnings and a grossly exaggerated story regarding Mayhem in the early '90's. It kind of turned me off and I didn't really start to look into it until I heard a few albums like Sigh's Sonicscape (Which you'd probably hate :P) and then I started exploring it. By then I was 18 and I think a lot of the things about black metal that appeal to teenagers didn't work for me. While I was extremely agnostic at that time, the scenery evoked by some of the newer bands just didn't work for me. By then I was already pretty heavily invested in death metal and started expanding out towards avant-garde, so black metal became something I kind of stuck my head in every now and then to see what's what, but never something I really followed with any loyalty.

Black Metal is my favorite metal. Mostly because it is so atmospheric. I'm pretty sure I was only able to get into it because of shoegaze...black metal is like the opposite extreme of that. Death Metal can be good, but it can be way too technical. I can listen to a few songs at a time before my brain wants some time to relax (depending on the band, of course). Sigh's Sonicscape is brilliant, btw.

Carpathian Forest - Defending the Throne of Evil

Though this album is still relatively new, these guys have been around since 90. Some great straightforward Norwegian black metal. The vocals are still brutal but unusually clear. I love that.

Edit: And Pete, if you like Sigh I would check this out (if you haven't already). The last half of the album would be right up your alley.

60/70s songs are the best ever made and too many to name; Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Neil Diamand.. TOO MANY TO MENTION!!!
