My continued adventures into the realms of Noise Rock.

Hella - Hold Your Horse Is

This is a right gem, strikes me as what Lightning Bolt would be like without the enormous amounts of fuzz. Overly technical stuff can annoy me but this doesn't, deep down in here there are some great melodies. It doesn't outstay it's welcome either. Win.

Swans - Filth

In all honesty this album makes me want to kill myself. Despite this i keep listening, it's quite endearing despite the fact it sounds like pure torture itself. Heavy stuff.

Neptune - Gong Lake

I thought this was pretty crap really so i don't know why i'm putting it here. Nothing stood out really, it was just a mesh of poorly conveyed ideas with a very pretentious man speaking over them. Nevermind.

Howe Gelb. ’Sno Angel Like You.
A fine record. Howe's whispering voice to my ears sounds like a cross between Lou Reed and Neil Young. Along with a gospel choir he has produced a 14 track album that some would say is more focused that his Giant Sand recordings. Alt. Country rock with a gospel choir that works a treat along with the Americana lyrics that Howe writes rather well. Favorite tracks are Get To Leave, Paradise Here Abouts, Howlin a Gale and Robes In Black.

Robyn Hitch****. I Often Dream Of Trains.
A sparse lo fi recording of at times beautiful melodies with lyrics that can be idiosyncratic but at the same time portray nostalgia along with loopy wit. This is an album that is strong from the first to the last. A gentle melodic piano instrumental to start and end. In between are songs of nostalgia, Trams Of Old London, weirdness, The Bones In The Ground, and loneliness, Sometimes I wish I was a Pretty Girl, to name but a few subjects that Robyn delves into. Too many songs to select as favorites but Sounds Great When Your Dead has me singing along everytime. How can a lyric like "Your mother is a journalist Your father is a creep They make it in your bedroom When they think you're fast asleep" go astray? I have always thought that this is an album for the frustrated Syd Barrett fan. A wonderful record.

When did people start calling mediocrity by other names?

^ I don't even like him & that was funny.

My boyfriend made me a mix tape (I'm old school, I still say tape), called it Last Chance Blueprint, after the Rise Against song. It has a variety of stuff we like on it... Bad Religion, Rise Against, Third Eye Blind (the good stuff), Germs, Counting Crows, etc...
Favorite tracks,
God of Wine - Third Eye Blind

What We Do Is Secret - Germs
Lexicon Devil - Germs
Ghetto Defendant (Guest Vocals by Allen Ginsberg) - the Clash
Thin Blue Flame - Josh Ritter
Last Chance Blueprint - Rise Against

After reading the CLAPTON autobiography, I am spending a lot of time with ALL THINGS CLAPTON. Box sets from the library, my own compilations, Cream sets. You name it.
