I've been listening to this one a lot lately

MC Lars - This Gigantic Robot Kills (2009)

I've been a bit a nerd kick lately, finally listening to MC Frontalot and now I've moved up to MC Lars. I wouldn't really call this album 'nerdcore' because it talks more about social trends, conformism, ecology, and even suicide. All the songs are very well written, chock full of wit, literary references, and thoughtful observations. MC Lars is really eclectic with his sampling choice and beats, ranging from a pop-punk backing, to ska, metal, and so on. Overall this was an album I should have listened to last year when it came out, however late is better than never.

When I first heard this album, I was wearing headphones and thought it was kind of boring. However, I put the album in the car on a whim today, and holy crap did that make a huge difference. Now, this may only be my perception of it, but I don't think this album can be fully appreciated by just listening with your ears. You have to feel it with your body. Feel the bass, and how it mixes with the mid and the treble, creating this kind of atmosphere. That's why I didn't find it very interesting while wearing headphones, atleast I think anyway.

The basslines on that album are soooooo fucking good :D it's a really great album to listen to on a good pair of headphones or on a good stereo system. Some of the tracks are let down though by poor production but overall it's an incredible trip.

Ahh yes! Great album. I had found Uyama Hiroto first and found Nujabes through him. Their sound is quite similar so if you haven't heard anything from Uyama, you need to! It's such a shame Nujabes passed away so young :( Very sad. I'm not sure if you listen to very much Downtempo/Electro Acoustic but I find it to be similar to smooth Hip Hop except maybe more chilled.

I'll have to check out Uyama as well, then. And yes, it is quite sad about Nujabes passing away...especially something like a car accident.

What is some good downtempo/electro acoustic? I love chill music and you seem to have a good taste with this kind of stuff, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Originally I named Arms & Sleepers as my favorite group for that sort of thing.. and some of their stuff has some (what sounds like to me anyway) Jazz influence. But then I found Flica and Rist. They're pretty similar but where Flica uses a lot of Piano, Rist uses Acoustic Guitar. Fjordne also uses quite a bit of Acoustic guitar. It's all amazing stuff

Arovane is slightly more IDM but I think he fits in nicely

I saw these guys live two summers ago... great show, and I'd forgotten how much I love the tracks "Agenda Suicide" and "Paranoiattack"

Danse Macabre is such a great album. Wet From Birth is good too, though not as good as Danse Macabre, Blank-Wave Arcade or Fasciinatiion.

RVCA 07-27-2010 07:19 PM

Really? I think Fasciination is a very weak album. Danse > Wet > Blank > Fasc

Love that album. Haunting too knowing it wasn't ever 100% complete before he died, so you never really knew what he had planned.
