Humble Pie - As Safe As Yesterday Is

Ever get in one of those moods when you can't be bothered with any of that fancy shit and just wanna listen to something you can play ridiculously loud and piss your nearest neighbours off with it? This is pretty much the album for that.

Steve Marriot = one of the most underrated frontmen ever.

Prog is a genre i have certainly dabbled in over the years but never really been taken with or dedicated much time to so I always hold off on my opinions when it comes to the genre. The last few days I have been downloading alot of prog "classics" and covering a few bases. Symphonic prog could be a challenge for me but i feel confident i will find alot i like. I have been enjoying Yes and Rush (just the one album each for those bands so far) but in a way i knew that something a little dirtier and more psychedelic would be more my thing. Then i put this on...

Its not even finished yet. It still has a couple of minutes to go but this album just kicked me in the teeth. I haven't been blown away by something quite like this in a long time and on first listen no less.

I can't put into words my feelings for this record really. I wont do it justice. I'm actually a little speechless.

This album's fucking amazing - simple as. Alright, there's one pretty lame track on it, but other than I don't think I've ever come across such a seamless blend of classical and alternative Americana before. One of the best downloads I've made this year, and one more reason to laugh in the face of people who indiscriminately hate 'country'.

High On a Mountain Top, Have Mercy, Story Of My Life & Little Red Shoes =

Well whenever you have 12 or 13 minutes spare Bulldog, check this out.

Speechless.

Excellent album. The first I ever heard from them was The Snow Goose, I put it on while building an IKEA bookcase and it was very relaxing. It's instrumental, I believe it was a soundtrack/score. Moonmadness is also excellent, so I would check those two out after Mirage, then their debut s/t. All good. There's a lot of Pink Floyd in their sound without being as psychadelic.

Mojo 07-08-2010 11:55 AM

I got the debut too and i have listened to that. I really dug that too. I also have downloaded Snow Goose and Moonmadness already. :thumb:

Yeah, this is my kind of thing really. Long tracks, psychedelic, a bit of feedback, some nice guitar solos. Its all good. I cant wait to give those next two albums a listen. Mirage is just the first album in a long time that has completely blown me away from the first moment i put it on. I've played it about 6 times already and it hasnt even been 24 hours yet. This band could easily and quickly become a favourite.

And another person discovers the magic of Camel... I never shut up about the band :D Latimer is seriously the best prog guitarist around, bar none (and that includes Gilmour).

GravitySlips 07-09-2010 02:49 PM

does anyone have a link for Camel? I'd love to hear it...
