Well that would be my third choice, but I wouldn't call it particularly essential.
This makes me want to do Supertramp in "This Album > That Album," but I think I'd have to go back and reassess.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Armed Forces For some reason I decided the best way to go through Elvis Costello's discography is chronologically. I started with My Aim Is True a few months back and loved it. This Year's Model was ok, but a little average for my tastes. Armed Forces...his first to credit the Attractions on the cover...is pretty damn good. My Aim Is True is still a tad more entertaining, but this album has some songs that are just plain addictive.

Good album that, but far from one of my favourites. It's a bit too clean and glossy for my liking, and doesn't really do some of the songs any favours. There are a few of his best on there though.
The Saints - All Fools Day One of the Saints' post-Kuepper albums, meaning it comes from the time after their first two punk album - when the Saints basically became lead singer Chris Bailey's solo project. Call it heresy, but it ain't half bad. Goes for a much, much softer sound than you'd assume, ending up with a kinda folk-rock sound at the end of it. Good stuff, but not a patch on their first two albums (no matter how chalk-and-cheese such a comparison might be). This here's probably the best song on it (helps if you can listen to it without watching the uber-lame video); |

Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With The Aarab Strap My first Belle & Sebastian, and it won't be my last. Catchy Indie-pop songs, lyrics that draw you in. One of the most pleasurable first listens of an album I've had in ages, well I say first listen.. it took about 3 for me to love it. Great album. Can't wait to listen to another B&S record. |

Or maybe I just live in the most musically uncultured region of this damn country. Anyways...I take it they are quite popular there?

That's a good thing, I didn't think American's would really know about them except for the odd few. I didn't know they were mentioned on High Fidelity? I must've missed that reference.. and I didn't know they were mentioned on 500 Days of Summer either. |
