Re: Mastodon, I never heard any grindcore in their sound, but sludge yeah. As has been said, if you really like Crack the Skye then the best thing to do is work backwards so you'll adjust to the sound. It's true the vocals on Crack the Skye are considerably more accessible than before. I really like all 4 of their albums, with Leviathan probably being my favorite.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

^If you want to hear them grind. Bear in mind they've never been a pure grindcore band, but they really have a lot of grindcore parts on this compilation of early tracks. What's great about Mastodon is they mix up a lot of influences, and it's impossible to call them any specific type of metal band. There's also fair amount of mathcore in the mix.

I gave it a listen and really enjoyed. Thanks

The Heliocentrics - Out There
Organic trip-hop, jazz fusion, Post rock, Hip-hop, pseudo-Dixieland jazz? Uh...yeah. Out There is quite a difficult album to pigeon hole into a genre, aside from the catchall tag that post-rock lends itself to be sometimes. Perhaps a better description of The Heliocentric's brilliance is to note that they served as DJ Shadow's back up band for a few of his tours, and you can definitely hear his influence as well on the album. Whatever you wanna' call it, I'm diggin' it pretty hard.

Thievery Corporation - The Outernational Sound
OK, it's not really a Thievery Corporation album in the sense that it's original music created by the duo themselves. The Outernational Sound is actually more of a mix-tape, a 'DJ session' as the CD cover suggests, compiled by Garza and Hilton. Having said that, It's an amazing album regardless. Ironically it retains the duo's signature vibe. I've seen 'party mixes' released as albums under the clout of the name of famous electronic artists before. The more notable example I can think of is Nightmares on Wax's Coming Home, which is also quite good. If you can get past the fact that it's a Thievery Corporation album in name only, I think any TC fan would be more than pleased with it.

Been meaning to check out that Heliocentrics album for some time, haven't gotten around to it.

I kinda stopped listening to Thievery Corporation about a decade ago, but one album I really enjoyed (and probably the first thing of theirs I ever heard) is Abductions and Reconstructions which is a collection of remixes they've done. IT works really well with a similar vibe throughout. Their DJ Kicks from 1999 is another release compiling other artists' tracks (not remixed this time, so it's more like the one you posted).

Ya know, I never actually thought it would happen, but I actually really, really enjoyed the heck out of Muse's The resistance today while i was running errands in my car... that suprised me! I thought I'd like it but I had no idea i'd be so impressed with it!

Ratatat - LP4

I've been looking forward to this album for a while now and upon first listen it definitely does not disappoint. Don't listen to the naysayers complaining it sounds too much like LP3. It's a really solid album that's worth checking out.
