Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life

I am LOVING this album right now. His quietly tortured voice reminds me a lot of Elliott Smith, as does the music (only with much more complex instrumentation...Elliott Smith's problem was that he did much better when it was just him and an acoustic guitar). This is a winner, I only wish I had heard of him earlier.

Great album that especially Gold Day and Piano Fire.

Centenaire - S/T (2007)

This one's been getting quite a few spins lately: progressive folk-pop melding with the sort of modern day aesthetic you'd associate with Animal Collective or Espers...yet with a more tribal edge to the percussion and arrangements. What a great find!

Seaweed - Actions & Indications (1999, Merge)

Haven't listened to this in a while. Great final album from this Seattle (Tacoma actually) grunge/alt rock band who put their first album out in 1991 on Sub Pop. I've only heard their last 3 and this may be the most accessible but it's the one I like most. Their style on this one has a bit in common with mid-late 90s emo stylistically (not the shit you know from MTV and MySpace), but their lyrics are not emo. A little bit of Sunny Day Real Estate, a little late-era Jawbreaker. A smidge of post-hardcore perhaps. Drummer Alan Cage from Quicksand apparently played on this album, so there's that (though this isn't like they are).

Really enjoying this recently. It could get a little strange if you don't know the concept right away, but overall it's a great album.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part

It's 6am Brit-time, clear early morning skies outside, I've got a six-hour road-trip ahead of me, I've been up all-night working on a screenplay and I'm sipping tea that's probably about 95% sugar in a desperate bid to stay awake, and this album's an absolutely perfect musical backdrop for it.

Absolutely perfect backdrop, I love this album as well. Nick Cave is one of our best songwriters...
