GREEN ARMY FRACTION – Chlorophyll Flood

Blistering power electronics raging against everything modern consumer culture has to offer.
For a lot of people this may not even be ‘music’ but those who enjoy the terrifying, abrasive soundscapes created by artists such as Genocide Organ, Anenzephalia, Grunt etc. may find something of value.

Really? I find it to be ... Well, just OK. That is, if we are comparing them to other DEP albums, and we most definitely are. This one didn't do it for me, and maybe it's because I've never been a hardcore DEP fan. It took me awhile to get into them, and when I did, there were just a few of albums that I liked. At this point, the vocals have changed so much. Aside from the elements of mathcore, the vocals are showcased in all their albums, so naturally, with my existing appreciation for Mike Patton, Irony is a Dead Scene was my favorite. Now, if we're talking about DEP without Patton, I'm going with Calculating Infinity and Ire Works. Even so, the vocals are a bit hard for me to swallow in all three that I listed. The vocals in Option Paralysis ruined the album for me - especially when he's just singing.

There's definitely more focus on the vocals in Option Paralysis. I'm personally a big fan of Greg's singing, so naturally I really dug the album on the vocals department.

But yes, Ire Works is a superior album for sure. DEP set the bar really high on that one, in my opinion, so it's not really a surprise or dissapointment that this one didn't exceed it.

Yeah, I enjoy some of the instrumentation, but vocals have always been important to me, and I've tolerated Greg's vocals, but was never really a fan. I think this is where we just agree to disagree. :)

Just been having a go with two of the most beautifully freakish albums I own...


I absolutely love the eerie atmosphere there is to this one. What with the lack of bass or guitars over most of the album, it's easily one of the most unique listening experiences I could ask for whenever I stick it on. Seeing as a lot of the songs are focused on Lydon's vocals and his, Keith Levene and Martin Atkins' contributions on drums and percussion, it's pretty bloody weird-sounding stuff. At least to me anyway.


Very difficult album to truly appreciate as I do, as it's one where you have to focus basically everything on the music itself. Not exactly something you can have on while you're playing Pro Evo with your mates then. A good set of headphones definitely does this album a world of good, as you can really pick up on all the strange, subtle blocks of sound that make up the whole songs themselves.
