Self - Gizmodgery

Great pop album played entirely with children's toys and instruments. These guys had a semi-hit or two from their 1995 debut, Subliminal Plastic Motives. Can't remember which song(s) it was though, I think Borateen or Sophomore Jinx. Anyway much of their stuff is very fun pop rock. I'd say they have some in common with Weezer, but incorporate more electronics, and write better songs (Weezer's debut not included).

(not his normal singing voice here...but I dig it :p: Obviously Bee Gees influenced, and reminiscent of Scissor Sisters for the same reason)

I'm feeling some Silversun Pickups in my music listening future tonight...

Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle (1994)

Debut album from the seminal Chapel Hill indie rock band. Probably one of the best crossover indie albums ever, there's no doubt that songs like "Web in Front" and "Backwash" still hold up well. Yeah, it might remind you of Pavement, but everything holds up well and these guys could actually play their instruments:

Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesumbarinetransmissionplot (1995)

It's easy to see parallels between Mark Linkous's life and death and forebears such as Elliott Smith. The difference being, of course, that Linkous could actually write worth a damn, and his debut Sparklehorse album more than proves it. In particular "Cow" is just enormous:

I am currently digging this, and you should too. I really love the song 'Darlin' If' but no vid to be found.

Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes
I listened to this album on my mp3 on my way home from a big night of drinking last night, as i always get angsty when i'm pissed. My only regret is that i didn't have this album when i was 16 and really needed it.
favourite tracks: Blister in the Sun, Kiss Off, Add it Up, Confessions

OK Computer - Radiohead
I woke up this morning with the worst hangover and the hugest desire to listen to this album, it was the perfect album. Listening while hungover seemed to give Fitter Happier in particular a new twist.
Favourite tracks: No surprises, exit music (for a film)

Internationalist - Powderfinger
Listened to this this arvo. By far Powderfingers best work.
Favourite tracks: Hindley street, already gone, capoicity

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Eating Us

I can't stop listening to this album. According to wikipedia, they are classified as psychedelia, folk, electronica and pop. Now, I've never really been into any electronica, but the minute I heard this album, I was hooked! It perks me up every time I listen to it. I think I have the link somewhere. If anyone is interested, PM me. It has also opened me up to other electronica, which I'm not thrilled about. Electronica fans, send me some suggestions, if you will. :)

Niiiice. I got their album Dandelion Gum last week and listened to it like 10 times, so another album with a good recommendation is exactly what I need. Thank you.

Such a great find. Japanese trio consisting of 2 females and a male who play a sort of bouncy guitar pop with a Punk attitude but then throw in a bit of noise and a little Math Rock but it works really well. Have a listen:

Ooh, Dandelion Gum is amazing! Only one thing though: it's so short! Before I know it, the album is over and I'm yearning for more. If you like Dandelion Gum, you will absolutely love Eating Us!
