Gillian Welch - Revival

Nice mellow, yet slightly dark Appalachian/blue grass style singer songwriter. I've heard other albums of her's, but this, her debut is by far her best.

In Her Gentle Jaws - The Depreciation Guild

Thick, fuzzy, dreamy, electro-tinged shoegaze, and completely free on the bands website. Ggggggreat stuff.

St. Vincent - Actor

Randomly picked this up after I heard a few good things, and I couldn't be more pleased. It is straightforward pop, but the kind of pop I love. What I love most is the aggressive drum machine attack she uses, which gives a real nasty edge to music that would otherwise sound gentle as a lamb (for the most part).

Last night I went on a bit of an REM kick, but generally wanted to listen to their less heavily publicised stuff including...

Reckoning
Monster
Up

Then of course I had to listen to Accelerate because it's so darn good!

I loved loved loved it.

I'm on something of a Damon Albarn binge, after listening to Demon Days, and now setting into this.Better than I expected even if he should have done more with the rhythm section at his disposal.

Rickenbacker suggested Vauxhill & I but I couldn't find that album anywhere unfortunately... I think I'll start with the greatest hits first...

EDIT: Now that i think about it, this album is really not all that great. I should've got the best of... songs missing from this compilation

Free Energy - Stuck on Nothing

Call it 70s hard rock meets Pavement's indie charm...

I'm not sure any best of compilation would be that great for Morrissey's stuff. I made the mistake of grabbing a best of for the Smiths, and as a result found it very very hard to get into them. For some reason, at least to me, not having all of the songs in the proper context negatively influenced my feelings about them. After I realized this and checked out their proper albums, I was hooked. I imagine Morrissey's solo stuff to be in the same vein.

Gillian Welch - Revival

More wonderful alternative Americana here, thanks to a link courtesy of a certain moderator who goes by the name of Satchmo. Thanks so much for this - I'm absolutely loving it. Mixes up the more distortion-heavy alternate country and the yarn-spinning, folky vibes perfectly. Reminds me a lot of Lucinda Williams' West - another album I've been digging like ditches lately, and definitely one you should check out if you haven't already.
