They're like Les Savy Fav. Except good. Despite the haplessly formulaic song structures (everything is in 6/4), John Reis and Rick Froberg still managed to crank out oodles of inventive riffs and stuff them into four-minute packages. Probably the best anyone has channeled Wipers or Mission of Burma since Zen Arcade, I'm wondering how they gravitated so far from their roots in Drive Like Jehu and still manage to sound so good.

Excellent record for anyone who has an even nominal interest in post-hardcore or indie rock.
could you help me. wink wink

(1971)

bit of a hard psych classic really. Featured more than once on MB. Was inspired to stick it on after copping an earful of this great video-type thing YouTube - Top 10 UK 70.s heavy progressive bands

I knew about this band before their record was released, they've kind of been my little pocket band, but recently I can't stop myself from listening to their debut self titled album. I can't wait for their next release to see how they develop

Favourite Songs: Lucy The Castle, You Stole The Sun, She's A Weapon, Strife, Oh What Have You Done.

What? I haven't worn this album out long ago?

Well, I have...but I got my hands on a 2 disc remastered edition and I just had to hear it. First disc is Loveless remastered with the original analogue tapes and some digital audio tapes thrown in for good measure. Second disc is Loveless remastered with nothing but the pure true original analogue tapes.

What do I think so far? Well, if you don't have spectacular speakers/headphones don't expect a stunning revelation as far as the album goes. This is shoegaze, after all, and is by its very nature muddled and fuzzed out. But if you have the tools, it is worth a checking out. Each instrument is more distinct while still remaining true to the original release. A real plus for me is the vocals...while still atmospheric and still very much a part of the background, you can actually pick them out if you like. This was just my impression of the first disc...haven't heard the second yet.

I'm pleased.

Have you heard this?

It's a cover of that entire album that--while not what the original is, of course--is still one of the better tribute records I've heard. They keep a lot of the spirit of the tracks while still making them their own. The take on "Touched" is especially neat.

i must confess psychocandy is the only jesus and mary chain i've heard, and i'm pretty much in love with it. My current job is really stressful, and it's the perfect album to just sit and chill to after a long day. Does their sound change much over their later albums, or do they roughly remain the same?

I have heard of it, but I have not listened to it. I'll have to check it out, you seem to like a lot of the same stuff as me.

There is a logical progression amongst their albums. There are no other albums that sound like Psychocandy per se...but that is a good thing, trust me. I enjoy Darklands much more than Psychocandy. Darklands is Psychocandy minus the intense feedback they loved for that album plus all the great pop moments x 10. Knowing you like Psychocandy, if you like Darklands then it is safe to say you will like all their stuff pretty much.
