Was King for A Day, Fool for A Lifetime your favorite FNM album? I remember finding it in the used CDs bin for five bucks unexpectedly. A great album, but I'm quite fond of Live at Brixton Academy and of course, We Care a Lot.

i don't know actually, these days it's probably Angel Dust but yeah, used to rock that album daily. Chuck Moseley was a card, imagine him doing the vocals on king for a day, patton basically ruined that 80's goon metal thing, you do miss the big cardigans and colourful gym shorts though

right, i've been having a Buzzcocks revival, the initial run of albums from '77-'79; going to have to use that word 'perfect' again, because the enduring myth of them being a singles band is total rubbish. A friend the other day brought up the notion that Buzzcocks were definitely post-punk... because this simplified music press delineation of punk/post-punk doesn't cut it for so many bands, these guys included. Pete Shelley's universally-personal pop songwriting may be the other side of the coin to former bandmate Howard Devoto's art school intellectualism with Magazine; but both had moved beyond the basic punk blueprint by 1977. And if you still need convincing, 'Another Music..' bears the traits of the generic 'post-punk' sound, it's a lot more repetitive and brutal than the others, driving and very Krautrock-like with the drumming in places. But still catchy as hell. They were definitely trailblazers, however the combination of the punk ethos with pop sensibilities was completely mangled (sorry) later on by Californians IMO. I mean like second or third wave, not the Descendents et al =p
what do YOU think?

Probably because Mr. Bungle was the shit. Ever notice that Patton is wearing a Bungle shirt in the "Epic" video? Shameless self-promotion at it's best.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm becoming a McCartney fan
I agree with George Carlin when he said that the wrong two Beatles died first.

I ****in' hated that guy. Angel Dust is my favorite as well.

Finally, after months, got my hands on these... why did I never check the comments or other blogs?

A couple pretty strange but beautiful tapes from Guelmim, Morocco, if you liked Conan's post on G.S Sachdev (which I much prefer because India > Africa) then these might be worth tracking down. Kind of creepy to sleep to though.... and I woke up the next morning sick. Try them out.

Also have been digging this lately:

Each song is sort of hit and miss for me, if you want it you should be able to find the blog by typing the band and or album name into Google, unfortunately the link for d/l is missing the first track and this song I found on youtube isn't on it. Pretty good album though.

Edit: BTW if you want that song from the youtube video, or a new unreleased mix of Salvador Cresta's stuff then just PM me, I got it.

Yep and yep.

And IMHO Secret Chiefs 3 is even more the shit than Bungle. Trey Spruance is easily one of my favorite guitarists ever.

It says they're from Mauritania on the cover, anyway, seems cool. I'm downloading it.

Edit:
I listened to it. Definitely Tarab, music that is used to meditate or to just to trip to (notable Tarab singer: Oum Koultoum). That's why all songs are ~20 minutes long, repeating usually the same sentence.

Now it would've been much greater if they used a bouzouk or a Oud, or any of the traditional acoustic instruments, but I guess their whole concept was to inject some western vibe with the electric guitar. I guess that's why you made a bad trip listening to them.

Tho what I liked in that music, and which was bound to happen due to Mauritania's position in the world. An Arabic country, on the north of Senegal and the south of Morocoo, like the separation of very different cultures. So these identities were merged to build some kind of mix of the traditional Arabic Tarab with the African, plus in some places we can hear the Moroccan Rai. If well arranged and recorded, I say this has the potential to be great.

Wow, Numbernine you really sound like you know your world music. You should send some stuff if you have anything that you think is better then this, been trying to get into more world music but I'm honestly having a bit of a time adjusting. For me at first it was mind blowing, but after an hour it was sort of annoying... like The Mars Volta. Have any suggestions?

^ A lot better than I remember it being, however many years ago it was when I last listened to this end-to-end.
