VOIVOD-NOTHINGFACE (1991)
Quite apart from the phenomenal cover of the the Floyd's Astronomy Domine', this album is proof that not all metal (and especially Thrash that is was lumped in with at the time) is unimaginative and lacks intelligence and forward thinking. Along with their previous release 'Dimension:Hatross', Voivod took their influences from acid rock and psychedelia and applied it to a Thrash sensibility. 'Missing Sequences' is one of the finest and forward thinkg metal tracks ever recorded and preceded bands like Tool who used similar templates. PJ HARVEY-STORIES FROM THE CITY..(2000) One of a select few to challenge Patti Smith in terms of musical ingenuity, lyrical complexity and emotional depth. PJ Harvey has always produced interesting music and continues to stretch her musical horizons. This is one of her very best albums and anyone with a mere passing interest in Female singer/songwriters should give this a listen. THE INCREDIBLE FLYING TORTURE ORCHESTRA (2007) An album made and created in these very forums! Electronic soundscapes slightly off kilter. Sounds like it's leader! SOLDIERS OF JAH ARMY-E.P (2004) Another great roots reggae band that I found on my interweb travels! Old school vibes aplenty!

SOJA was reissued in 2004 with extra dub tracks and that is the version I was listening to. Google is not always correct.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Spent half the day at the BMV, and I spent the whole time listening to Strawberry Jam. Peacebone is by far my favorite song off of this album. SJ is like the alternative to alternative music. |
