one of the best albums i've heard this year, Aaron Turner just keeps getting better and better. probably the best thing they've done since Oceanic, and i'm not entirely convinced that was any better than this.

SUNN O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions (2009)

Just wonderfully gloomy drone.

BORIS - FEEDBACKER (2003)

Boris' one track drone/stoner rock masterpiece with ambient passages. Split into 5 parts, each bleeding effortlessly into the next. It really is such a perfect record.

hmmm...for some reason i've always overlooked Feedbacker for Akuma No Uta (the closing track is fucking enormous!). both are rather excellent records & this is coming from someone who finds most drone metal inescapably boring.

I can see why you'd like Feedbacker, even if you dont like much drone. Theres drums, vocals and a guitar solo for a start. I just think its a masterpiece. Every time i listen to it i realise how just how fantastically crafted it is, and even though it is very easily seperated into 5 different parts, each different from one another its all organised in such a way that it is most definitely one single track.

I'll have to give Akuma No Uta another go. I do have it but i havent listened to it much.

Is this the best all girl metal album ever? Even ignoring the fact that there is a terrible lack of such albums, this is a fantastic slice of U.K 80's metal.

They were supporting Motorhead again on this tour. I would have loved to have gone.

For me, I had to get over wanting them to be like they were on their previous records and just appreciate the poppier more accessible sound. I've given it a lot of time though and I still don't know that it's one of my favorites of the year... but it's a solid album regardless. And of course, a couple of the songs rival anything in their catalog.

I was just recently thinking that it may actually be my favorite album of this year. I agree with everything else you said as well. For some reason, I thought it was all gonna go downhill for ISIS after In The Absence Of Truth. But Wavering Radiant may be the band at their best - combining the old heaviness with the newer lightness and with maybe the best production they've ever had..maybe.

As for me: Lie Down In The Light by Bonnie Prince Billy - I'm digging the last 5 BPB albums a lot lately

Yeah I would have loved to see that for sure. Hit and Run is genuinely a great album.
