The Magnetic Fields "Holiday"
The album where Stephin started singing and in my opinion the album where they showed their full creativity for the first time. It's influenced a bunch of recent indie sensations from Beirut to Jens Lekman and it's lovely especially Torn Green Velvet Eyes. Favorite Songs: Torn Green Velvet Eyes, Take Ecstasy With Me, Strange Powers Dead Kennedys "Bedtime For Democracy" Not their best album but still a Dead Kennedys album and therefore good. I don't have much to say on this other than I forgot how much I loved Jello's voice and lyrics. A Commercial is the best. More punk should sound like this. Favorite Songs: Chickenshit Conformist, Do the Slag, "Anarchy For Sale Primal Scream "Screamadelica" I don't really know what to say about this album other than it's all over the place and if you want to get high fuck Pink Floyd listen to this. It's great not high too. Favorite Songs: Shine Like Stars, Inner Flight, Damaged Linda Perhacs "Parallelograms" I don't want to say too much on this because I'm reviewing it this weekend. It's good, for fans of Joanna Newsom or Vashti Bunyan. Favorite Songs: Hey Who Really Cares, Paper Mountain Man, Chimacum Rain |

CASSIUS-AU REVE
Classic French House/Disco that I have been catching up with. THE PAX CECILIA-BLESSED ARE THE BONDS I have already posted about these in another thread but I still have to big 'em up. One of the best rock (for want of a better term) albums I have heard for a few months. GENIUS/GZA-LIQUID SWORDS An album that has been rotating amongst the heirachy here at MB towers. This Rap/Hip-Hop album deserves all the praise it can get. Stunning. CHRIS GOSS-GIVE US BARABBAS Founder member of the hugely underated Masters Of Reality and QOTSA producer Chris Goss's essentially solo album. You want dirty blues riffs spun in a metal washing machine washed down with with soulful mouthwash? Listen to this.

Another similar sounding album I am listening to nowadays is Promise and the Monster's Transparent Knives. It captures a feeling similar to Parallelograms more than say Newsom or Bunyan albums which it gets compared to.

bootlegs I'm digging XII:
Joanna Newsom live in Amsterdam Hearing her band play new arrangements to "bridges and balloons", "what we have known", and an extended version of "Colleen" is really great. Her voice has continued to grow with a confidence that is more and more rare in an age where fame seems to mess up artists with songs this delicate (fiona apple, elliot smith, etc.) Autechre Webcast DJ Marathon December 2006 they did a 28 hour marathon, and another 12 hour one last month. Finding something like this from one of my favorite bands is something I can't put in words. Imagine hearing the beatles play all their favourite songs, 40 hours worth!, on some radio station in 1969. Finding out that Depeche Mode seems to be thier fav 80s "band" is pretty cool. Lil Wayne - The Carter Chronicles Dude puts out bootlegs that put to shame any rap album over the past 3 years (other than Graduation). Between this and last year's Da Drought part whatever, the fact that this dude makes actual albums is becoming a sidenote. Which in itself is a kind of epic underground (but not) status, no rapper has ever attempted to achieve before. Weezy is the "interwebs" of rappers. Creating whole new models for being the Best Rapper Alive, whether he is or not. Last edited by zubitrionique; 03-26-2008 at 02:09 PM. |

1.
This album just makes you feel so crazy awesome inside. It pushes you to think about all the amazing things this guy does and it's very abstract but that's what makes it beautiful. Such a simple thing makes you feel like this album inspires music in a different sense. 2. listening to this album makes me think of them rocking this live. Every song is well done and awesome! 3. absolute craziness 4. you have never heard anything like this guy and this by far is his best album. |
