The Black Parade

I somehow managed to overlook My Chemical Romance for years before a friend recommended TBP. I listened and I've been fairly hooked ever since. With The Black Parade, MCR doesn't just dish out dark-and-raw emo-punk tracks. They combine the expected death-and-depression-bound subject matter with irresistibly catchy melodies (Mama), clever, tightly-controlled lyrics (Teenagers), and even poignancy (Cancer, Disenchanted). Emo-punk bands might not be everyone's cup of tea, as they say, but The Black Parade is definitely mine.

Spiritual Unity is an album that has everything I *should* love, but for some reason i am not as into as many others. It has all the hallmarks of something that will eventually blow me over with an "aha" listen, but as of yet that just hasn't happened.

anyway i'm having a Grover Washington Jr. morning. First Mister Magic now this:

Do you go in hard for any of Ayler’s stuff?

The only ones I'm overly familiar with are Spiritual Unity and Ghosts/Vibrations. I don't hate them or anything but i tend to gravitate elsewhere unless I'm trying again to change my tune

Swing Low Sweet Spiritual is an album by American free jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler recorded in New York City at the same session that produced Spirits in 1964 and intended for release on the Danish Debut label but first released in 1981 on the Dutch Osmosis label then re-released on CD with bonus tracks on the Black Lion label as Goin' Home.[1][2]
Next time you wanna test the water again I suggest you try this one. It might give you a little more to latch on to. I’m not sure because I’ve spent so much time with Ayler at this point but it may be the case that I’ve listened to this one the most. It’s certainly not the most critically celebrated but I love it through and through.

Even with his original compositions it’s like there’s a straightforward melody in there that he vibrates out of but with this one you don’t have to spend so long with it because the songs are trad. It’s a great and really oddly underrated record.

It’s on Spotify but not listed with his other records. You have to use creative search terms for some reason.
