massicot - morse
pretty rad post-punk/no wave that blends catchy with weird in all the right ways. apperently the band is from Switzerland which is kind of unexpected because there's a lot of world music influence on this thing but it sounds a lot more like south america than it does switzerland. anyway, some pretty good ****.

Ki-Motion by Mkwaju Ensemble I think ive trumpeted the greatness of their s/t album (which is wonderful and you should listen to it too), but this one is as sublime. the whole "percussive ambience" thing it's got going on is 100% my jam. infections as all fuck |

Taylor Swift - reputation (2017) I surprised myself a little bit when I decided to listen to this album. I haven't listened to a Taylor Swift album in a very long time. So much time that her last previous albums just sort of brushed over me and I didn't even bother listening to them. I heard a few songs from this album before it was released, and for some reason, it piqued my interest. It was sounding like a more haunting and "not giving a ****" attitude" from Taylor Swift, and well, that's exactly what she brought to the table. This album basically showcases her want to be her own thing, and not something people have been expecting her to be. I completely agree that the Taylor Swift now is vastly different than what we knew years ago, but hey, people change. I'm willing to give people another shot if I know that they were good at one point. At the end of the day, I have to judge music by the music, and I like the music on this album. The fact that it's Taylor Swift kind of adds to it, to be honest. She really showcases that she wants to do this her own way, and not be confined. Nicely done. Best track: End Game |

Incendiary - Thousand Mile Stare (2017) Dear god. I never listen to new music simply out of laziness, but through chance I stumble upon an absolute top hardcore record that just so happens to be from 2017 that's absolutely everything I ever wanted and never quite got from New York hardcore. It's thunderous, vicious, has production that is neither overdone nor weak, those breakdowns could topple buildings, and in general is the absolute perfect aggressive record, no matter what genre you're looking for aggression from. Want hardcore? Here. Want metal? Here. Just want something that's mean in general? Here. Not only is it genre perfect, but the songwriting is uncharacteristically developed and makes each track feel like its own animal, rather than really well done versions of the same exact thing over and over again. And that inventive guitar work has no business being on a hardcore record. This is something that if time serves it well I could conceivably see putting up against the best from Slayer or... okay I might as well just stop there and say this rips as hard and brilliantly as a Slayer album. If you like **** that makes you want to harm others then you're a ****ing poseur for ignoring this album.
