Never listened to this until yesterday. ****, I've been missing out, this really probably is about where funk starts. I understand that he probably sounds like this in studio recordings at some point before, but there's this long medley that just reminds me of the long jams that he'd play in the late 60s and into the 70s. I've really been getting into live albums lately just for their improvisations, and this one didn't disappoint, and the crowd sounds pretty great even if they do get really loud at times. Another thing I really got into this year that I wasn't into, and missed out on a lot - Fela Kuti. This guy's like the Nigerian Miles Davis, but if he was more funky like George Clinton or Sly Stone. I have this on disc along with the "Confusion" album from two years later. It's kind weird because Confusion plays first even though it came out later, but it still sounds fine to me. |

I'm sure they'll communicate this to her at the Palace. Expect a call from MI5...
Ruthie Foster - Joy Comes Back (2017) You want a near-damn-perfect (if fact, remove the words near and damn) album of soul, funk and heartbreaking but not slushy ballads? You want an album to make you happy, to make you appreciate how good life is? You want a cover of ****ing "War Pigs"? Listen to this album or regret it for the rest of your life. I'm serious.

Cba doing a proper album post but Sheena Ringo’s new album is pretty decent a few tracks in.
Various Artists - Month of Mayhem [Compilation] (2017) The predominantly Bubblegum Bass record label PC Music released something every day for the month of May. It’s all splendid.

Kate Tempest - Let Them Eat Chaos
god damn grindy wasn't playing around when he said she was good. i wasn't sure about it but it keeps growing on me up to the point i've probably listened to it 4 times now since last night. a lot of the time political hip hop like this can become very tedious quickly, but the stellar production and impressive lyricism she displays makes this whole project engrossing and enjoyable. certain elements of the production remind me of el-p as well, so i mean it doesn't get much better than that. ****in' listen to this ****.
