Some awesome acoustic ska with swing overtones, I really can't believe it took me that long to get into it. My quest for the night is to find more than just an EP. Edit: My quest ended in failure as that is in fact the only album they have out currently, sad sad days

A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness by Rocketship. For a twee-pop album, this wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be. It's still cute and and it still retains that 60's pop vibe, but with organs it diverges into a spacey drone and then back again to jangly guitars. Considering their later albums, I suppose I can understand why I've heard so many claim their dislike for this one. Of all the songs, oddly enough my favorite is the cover of the Arthur Alexander song, "Anna (Go To Him)" Because sometimes I like shmaltzy and overdramatic pop ballads. I'm sorry but I have to say, Please Please Me > Sgt. Pepper's.

I've really gotten back into Elvenefris recently. It's death metal (brutal/tech I guess, I'm not the best with metal's sub-sub-subgenres) with an incorporated middle eastern influence. The drumming is astounding, and throughout it manages to stay simultaneously beautiful and heavy.

Odd Nosdam - Level Live Wires
I need a certain amount of patience to listen to an album thats 99% instrumental, but this did a pretty good job of keeping my attention. There are a few hooks that you won't find anywhere near a cLOUDDEAD album.. but it doesn't stray to far from the standard anticon hipster fuzz. Overall it's a solid album, but gets a bit repetitive. Why?'s guest vocals on Kill Tone Pt. II is all I really need anyways. |

A thanks to Pobodys Nerfect for this one. Of the few opinions I've heard on MB about this album, I've yet to hear anyone say anything positive, but I loved it from the first track. It takes me to a familiar place that I've never visited. There were a few moments, while listening to the album, that I wish they would have elaborated on the jazzy breakdowns a little bit more, but altogether, as a jazzy, proggy rock, hip-hop fusion, I love it. Thanks again, PoNe. |
