Deftones - Gore

Dare I say that this is the best album they have released since White Pony? FINALLY, the Deftones are showing some of that pop sensibility they showed on that album. Still plenty heavy for the Deftones fans who like that (Stephen is clearly into doom metal), but there's so much more texture and nuance than their past 3 or 4 albums. Don't get me wrong, I've like all of their albums on some level - it's just been a tad disappointing when with each new release, it seems they just want to crank up the gain and pound your head in while I know they have some real songwriting chops in them. Very pleasantly surprised with this.

M83 - Junk

With that first single "Do it, Try it", I did NOT have high hopes for this album. Turns out that song was a fluke, and the rest of the album is really damn good. Hell, "Do it, Try it" has even grown on me. It's unlike any past M83 albums, which is good considering there's not much difference between the vibes you get on Saturdays = Youth and Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. This is much more R&B inflected...so I guess it's R&B shoegaze? Whatever it is, it's good.

It pretty much is. Though what can you expect, it's what they've done lyrically for a while now.

They haven't been doing it well since the 90s imo. I'll give it a listen though.

Lyrics aside it's still a pretty good album. Far better than their last couple albums. Don't know where I'd rate it though in relation to their older albums.

I can't believe i didn't know this group until a couple of days ago. The drums in this album are great.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Better late than never, right?

i always saw him as a producer and though i had heard he was in a band i didn't care enough about him to seek out his work. i didn't even know he was in Big Black until my friend told me.

The Viola Crayola ‎– Music: Breathing Of Statues

Very cool prog/fusion. And no, not the lame fuzak kind. It's actually pretty psychedelic, wild and experimental at times. The guitar sounds somewhat like Zappa. Due to the guitarist's premature death they sadly only released this one album.

Betty Davis - Betty Davis (1973)

Really infectious funk album. Groovy, gritty vocals and great song after great song.
