^ I'll check it out. Passed on it because their first album was utter trash.

Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican (1990)

Been on a minor, brutal thrash metal kick recently. I love me some death thrash. Generally it's not the try-hard prog thrash that kicked the thrash bucket back in the late-eighties/early-nineties, so it has an immediacy that many of their more melodic brethren sadly lacked. As someone raised on thrash, it also appeals to me more than death metal as well, so it's one of my fav forms of extreme metal. Thrash's last gasp of greatness.

Epidemic of Violence and Slaughter in the Vatican are two of my all-time favs, along with Morbid Saint's Spectrum of Death, Anacrusis's Suffering Hour, and Devastation's Idolatry. Gotta throw Protector in there to a somewhat lesser degree.

CONAN - REVENGEANCE (2016)
"Caveman battle doom" bands third full length. The drummer and bass player left after the second and were replaced, and whenever you swap out two members of a three piece there is always going to be a question of the impact that will have. Revengeance both remains loyal to the 'Conan sound' while exploring new territory. It's still predominantly sludge and slow as all hell, but with some faster and punchier riffs creeping their way in and even some blast beats Conan are evolving, and with very, very strong material.

SKYLARK SONG - MAY THE HUNTER RETREAT (2015)
Folk duo from Newcastle's debut album. I've been to see them a couple of times and always loved them and the album doesn't disappoint. Folk/Americana with touches of country and blues. Quite beautiful music.

LA RECOLTE - LE DEUXIEME (2015)
While travelling last year in the US I stopped by a guest house in Lafayette, Louisiana that also had gig listings. Outside in the "barn" decked area cajun dance and zydeco bands played on until the night and these guys were alot of fun. Playing traditional cajun songs as well as originals they had everyone up dancing in what must rank as one of the most FUN shows I have ever witnessed. As expected, accordion and fiddle heavy, up-tempo foot-stompers.

Funk and Heavy masterpiece too be honest. Just too bad to find the tracks online or anywhere.

It is unsurprisingly badass and crushing.

Marmoset - Record in Red (2001)
I love this album. I first listened to it in 2012 and it felt like I had discovered a lost 90s indie rock classic. It's fucking great. I remember when I first listened to their debut Today It's You shortly before this one, I was reminded of Syd Barrett, Pavement, Sebadoh, and early Wire. This one is on the mellower, more stoned side of things with longer and more developed songs. I picked both albums up on vinyl last year and, interestingly enough, posted about the purchase exactly a year ago today.

Wolf Eyes - I Am a Problem: Mind in Pieces (2015)

Went into this album expecting the usual noise music that these guys make but I was presented with some unique, experimental, psychedelic, kind of industrial, kind of sludgish metal. I love their earlier music, but this outright and incredibly singular change in style makes me much more excited about where they'll go next.
