Because it's pretty derivative, mediocre pop? I can't fathom why this has so much hype or has been received like it has.

I'll try to remember to add it to my list. What is it exactly?

I'd call it an experimental pop album, some truly superb tracks throughout with a lot of variety.

lol derivative??!?! Did you actually even listen to the album or just try one of the singles and think that's enough to give a summation of the entire thing? I have never heard a pop album that sounds like this the whole way through, it's brilliant.

Heard a few tracks, not the whole thing. Sounded to me as if she'd basically taken some 90s pop cliches and mediocre, amateurish guitar parts and removed any of the edge that Visions had. I mean stuff like California is just pure flimsy tripe. It's pretty much on the same level as any manufactured pop album around right now, but for some reason the fact she created all herself seems to elevate it somehow. I just think it's boring and amateurish, basically.

You can probably guess that I dislike what I've heard.

Jesus Christ the ****ing ignorance in this post is astounding

California is an excellent diss song and sounds the way it does for a very good reason

So yes you did exactly what I initially said: you checked out a couple singles and assumed that's what the whole album sounded like so you decided to go on MusicBanter and ended up making yourself look like a fool. The variety of the tracks is part of what makes it such a superb album, but clearly only listening to the most mainstream track on the list is more than enough to make a dumbass statement like what I bolded. ffs

I've listened to 5 or 6? Honestly I was going to listen to the album but I really couldn't stand what I heard. I also don't buy this idea that California being ironic or a statement excuses the fact that it isn't very good. Realiti's okay but I preferred the demo she released. Also strongly dislike Scream, Belly of the Beat, and am completely passive to the singles in that they did nothing for me. It's not a dumbass statement, it's just an opinion.

How does Grimes' new album compare to Visions? If it's at all similar I'll just hop on the "meh, this isn't awful but it's overhyped as hell" train now.

Stara Rzeka - Zamknęły się oczy ziemi (2015)

This is a melting pot of metal, ambient, and post rock. Not my metal album of the year yet, but it's definitely quite high up there based on the first listen.

It's worse. Far less of the interesting appeal or edge. It's basically pure pop that's poorly realised. But defer to Frownland for a balanced argument.

Cannot believe we are on a dedicated music forum and we have someone judging an entire album off of barely a third of the track listing, it numbs the **** out of my brain right now

I prefer Art Angels to Visions personally. They're not all that similar
