Brownout - Homenaje (2008)

My favorite Austin, TX band "Grupo Fantasma" recording under their alter ego "Brownout." Paying homage to their influences with a fantastic album of various (mostly instrumental) Latin soul/funk/rock styles.

Dreams

This album is so chill. Sounds like a group of stoned dudes groovin' making music in their garage.

White Suns - Totem

This has earned its spot as my number one album of 2014, yes even above To Be Kind. It's some of the best noise rock you've never heard. Totem is raw, chaotic, experimental, and full of some in your face abrasive fun. The main focus of the album is in the guitars, which are reminiscent to Keiji Haino's stylings while maintaining their own right in avant-garde guitar. There are some sweet drums too but the guitars steal the show.

A very unique album that's worth your time if you're a noise and/or noise rock/punk enthusiast. Bob I get the feeling this would be right up your alley if you haven't listened to it yet.

Guess which album I am listening to next?

I will give you one shot.

^ I'm actually enjoying that too at the moment. Finding good new noise rock is tougher than it seems. :p:

I picked up something cool too-

Abel Ganz - Abel Ganz

My "prog" surprise of the year so far. Excellently layered and interesting folk-rock + jazz tinged 70's sounding fun from Glasgow of all places. You can tell these guys worked hard on this!

Spoon - They Want My Soul

Is it just me or does Spoon pump out consistent records every time?

Dark rituals, like the mad dancing of cthlulu's disciples at the edge of the world to the music of stoic drummers and insane storytellers. Can't get enough of it.

VERY open to similar bands!

This is the first Spoon album I've heard and it's been in pretty heavy rotation. Guess I'll be checking out their other albums.
