Classic case of brilliance stored away in a sea of records on iTunes, never to be found again, but miraculously (and accidentally) put on while folding laundry. I was hooked instantly as soon as "Flashing Lights" started being sampled. Need more Gil Scott-Heron in my remaining existence.

Been listening to this. Pretty fun indie rock/pop/whatever album.

Lower Dens - Twin Hand Movement So I've got a project going on. For the past 3 years I've made it a point to chronicle all the new music I listen to in a year and make a definitive "personal top 25". I only started this a couple years ago, so I've got top 25s for 2011, 2012, and 2013. So now I'm going back and my current goal is to eventually have a top 25 from every year since I was born. Hell, maybe eventually I'll get to a top 25 from every year as far back as I can go. Anyway, I'm going in chunks so I'm starting with 2010. Easy. This was one of the albums I stumbled upon that I happened to miss that year. Great indie-psych type stuff going on here. I love how they are not afraid of the occasional instrumental. There's some droning type stuff that can really zone you out but it's complimented nicely by some really interesting guitar work. This might go in my 2010 top 25. A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Sea When Absent Woohoo, a new A Sunny Day in Glasgow album! And this one is shaping up to be one of their best. I would even say for those who have never hear this band, this may be a good place to start. And if you don't know what they sound like...well, they are probably one of the most original shoegaze bands around. Very progressive and experimental...my definition of shoegaze is "hidden melody in a wall of sound" and this band takes that to a new level.

José James While You Were Sleeping This is the first album by James that I've heard & I really enjoyed it. A fine mix of soul, jazz & rock with some solid songwriting & vocals. One review got in right when they described him as "a Jon Lucien, Terry Callier, and Arthur Prysock triple combo all rolled up in one for the new generation". Definitely an album I'll be replaying often. |

Love - Forever Changes (1967) Took this out of my vinyl collection for a spin today. A masterpiece of psychedelic pop/rock that still sounds as exciting and interesting to me as it did the first time I heard it many years ago. |

I also own this on vinyl...it's one of those albums that almost requires the vinyl sound. One of my favorite 60's psych records for sure.

Thought of Two by Black Hat very good dark ambient/drone album from this year right here. sounds like the album cover looks, if that makes sense. Hard to describe accurately. Part horror film soundtrack part Gas maybe. yes this year continues to be great what up |
