I just bought this album, and I have to say I am not a huge fan of it, but that has not stopped me from playing it all the way through.

I like new Metallica better than the old Metallica (YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT) just because the band's music in today's times is much closer to my favorite genre of hard rock, and that alone has enough appeal for me to continue to listen to it. I for one, am very happy that Metallica has gone mainstream, because their music now resembles a fusion of rock-borderline-alternative and metal which is just awesome!

"Ain't my B****" is absolutely FANTASTIC and I cannot stop listening to it, but the rest of the album pales in comparison to it, which is disappointing considering that's the first track. I still like this album just because of the new direction Metallica goes with these songs.

Regardless of my somewhat negative feelings about this album, nothing will ever stop me in my quest to listen to all that is Metallica.

the shins are decent at best and outclassed massively by Built to Spill, Low, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Modest Mouse...I mean hell I don't see the argument for the shins at all

I don't even know what Indie is really.

It's such a nebulous term.

My favorite is Radiohead if that counts, followed by Modest Mouse (no order after this) Grizzly Bear, Elliott Smith, Joanna Newsom, Arcade Fire, Built to Spill and lots of others.

The Shins are good, just not one of my favorites. Chutes Too Narrow is my favorite by a lot.

I donnno indie rock is maybe a dumb term but i think it now has a certain "sound". In terms of the bands you mentioned heres how id go:

The Shins > Joanna Newsom >> Elliott Smith > Modest Mouse >>> Radiohead > Arcade Fire >>> Grizzly Bear

also Chutes too Narrow is probs their 3rd best album..

How can Joanna Newsom be classed as Indie Rock in the slightest?

I'm post classification. It's a bore that accomplishes little.

It's not an exercise I engage with any more.

I suppose I'm wrong in this case.
