I found it started off really strong and then I got kind of tired of it. It's not like the quality of the songs declined at all...I think I just got bored of their sound. So I guess in small does they are really good.

British Sea Power From the Sea to the Land Beyond (2013) Soundtrack to a documentary on the British coast (included on a dvd in this package). BSP rework their music into a largely instrumental score that more than compliments the film. This is easily one of the group's best releases though probably not the best introductory point for anyone unfamiliar with their work. That said, I would consider it a separate entity for the band and pick it up if you enjoy a great haunting & mystical soundtrack. Laura Nyro (and Labelle) Gonna Take A Miracle (1971) I hadn't heard this in years before today. Laura Nyro was definitely in a league of her own. Backed by Labelle, her one-of-a-kind brilliance shines on each track, each cover that she makes her own. Favorite tracks: the title song, "Spanish Harlem", "Nowhere To Run" and the live bonus tracks, especially "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" |

I have that BSP in my buy queue; you'd definitely recommend it? I'm a little concerned when you say not for those getting into the band, as it's my first from them. What other album(s) would you recommend?

TRUE WIDOW - AS HIGH AS THE HIGHEST HEAVENS...(2011) Been jamming this a lot lately, after being introduced to their album Circumambulation from last year. Beautiful shoegaze/stoner rock. Both male and female droning vocals, slow riffs, and some lovely moments of melody. WE ARE KNUCKLE DRAGGER - TIT FOR TAT (2012) Absolutely brilliant mathy hardcore from the band from Newcastle/Dublin. Been kinda obsessing over them as of late. Took me a couple of listens to last years The Drone before fully appreciating it, as it sounded a little disjointed initially. Their first record offers much of the same. Some really huge, bouncy riffs and grooves and mathy breakdowns. Last edited by Mojo; 01-17-2014 at 01:05 PM. |
