Also intrigued. You've never actually given me a decent suggestion, so.

If I had to choose a favorite synth-pop album, that would be it. It might also fit into the "electronic" category as my favorite album in that genre. A perfect blend of the two genres for me.

![]() ![]() Kink Gong - DIAN LONG: Soundscape China / Destruction of Chinese Pop "Discrepant presents another unique document of Kink Gong's aka Laurent Jeanneau's collection of surreal soundscapes of augmented field recordings, this time turning into his love/hate relationship with China into a mesmerising and unique soundscape of unclassifiable music. 'Before becoming KINK GONG I had different names, one of my projects, designed by cultural circumstances in China at the beginning of the 21st Century, was DIAN LONG (electric dragon in Chinese). Starting a very long trip to nowhere I landed in Shanghai in 2000, with my gear in my bag in order to make music and recordings of whatever. Faced with the cruel tendency of modern China to reject tradition and embrace full on bling bling culture, my option was to attack this music industry commercial flavour by destroying it. I had in my bag a faithful portable CD player who knew how to turn syrup into crystal. Later, reaching Yunnan in 2001, I discovered the reality away from the bling bling of eastern towns and did a realistic soundscape of it.'" Tasty. Sound collage can be more boring than radio rock, but when it's done right it's phenomenal.

Actually when I mentioned Jack Whites last album kinda Jack sucked, I meant to say holy shit it's seriously his best solo outing thus far. I shit on it for a sec but came to my senses. Most people are complaining it's too messy of a record? What the fuck does that even mean? Last I checked elements of experimental music isn't supposed to be fucking pretty. I was sorta sick of his coffee shop rock shtick. Glad to see his balls finally getting bigger.

![]() Spoiler for album art is huge:
Dan Mason - Miami Virtual (2017) Thanks to the Youtuber that tours dead malls that I've been watching, I've been hearing snippets of this album played in the background. Now that I'm listening to it on its own, it's really a fantastic album. It's got that sort of "sitting on the beach late at night at the fire in Florida" type of feel to it. It's very "Miami" esque but done so in a very calming and satisfactory way. If you're into instrumental style albums and want to feel like you're sitting in a warm climate for a little while, check this album out. |
