The list is all wrong.
It has the right songwriters, but all in the wrong order.
Typical best ever list.

^ If you think that's a predictable comment, it's because Magazine lists always are. This is the first thing that always enters my head when I see one like this.

and sometimes when Billy Bragg falls asleep, who also happens to deserve to be on this list.

Edit: Lou Barlow is like my favorite songwriter period. Now I completely understand why he isn't on some magazine list but it deserve mention that this guy is better than Sufjan and Sam Bean.

And Lyle Lovett? are they serious or was that just for a laugh.

That's better than some lists I've seen, even if it is a bit one dimensional. And I love how U2 is a songwriter.

Bowie should be higher IMO, and Steven Wilson should be in the top ten.

Were they trying to be funny with Michael Jackson ad Public Enemy? Public Enemy is amazing, but the Bomb Squad just about wrote their songs(Musically, not lyrically), and Michael Jackson? Try Quincy Jones.

I haven't listened to him in a long time but Wilson is absolutely brull-yint

Problem is PT'S music is decidely retro, so he will never get the respect he deserves. The new PT EP is again a great piece of work.

The real joke is Nick Cave being all the way up at 90.

Well, as I disagree with the order for the most part, there are 5 particular things I want to say.
1. # 80, Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett is no longer living, and that makes him ineligible. He also hasn't written music for Pink Floyd since '68. I love Syd Barrett, but still.
2. James Brown also not living, therefore not eligible.
3. If you're going to include Michael Jackson, you should have him share his top spot with Quincy Jones. He's the genius producer who did most of the work on his music.
4. David Bowie should be top 10. I would put him top 3, but that's just me.
5. John McCrea of Cake should be somewhere on this list. The dude writes really good lyrics with solidly likeable music. He needs a little bit mre credit in the music biz than he gets, I think.

Aside from those discrepencies, and general disagreement with the order, I think this is a pretty solid list.
