In Rainbows Vs. Icky Thump (metal, pop, punk, rock)

I think In Rainbows is over rated.
There's nothing wrong with it, I think it's a great album, but I can't help getting the feeling, that if the album had been released in the usual manner and not in the way it was, then it's status would have been marginally lower to the one it presently enjoys.

And it's not as good as Icky Thump!

I have the same problem, only the other way around with In Rainbows.

To be fair, i'm sure I remember you saying that you are not a big Radiohead fan so that is understandable. I am not a big Stripes fan either. I am only going on my preferences. I have both albums and I have played IN RAINBOWS at least 20/30 times. I guess I just love melancholy in my music. As musical styles go I should really prefer WHITE STRIPES as their natrual sound and riffs are more my bag, but I have never heard one solid album from them yet. Stripes write amazing singles but lack consistency IMO.

sometimes you play a good moron so convincingly that i'd swear...

it isn't the rapture. when SLTS came out, no one immediately stopped playing hair metal but its reign was over.

good job having a clue, you are always a grand contributer to the dying catty comments that never thrive here.

Then we must agree to disagree...different strokes an' all that.
Maybe I should listen to In Rainbows more, maybe I'm missing out on something worth listening to more?
I just find that The White Stripes do it for me every time and without much initial listening.

Very mature. Two things: Nickelback is still being played and Puddle of Mudd had a hit awhile ago with their last album. It's been 6 years.

In addition to that, you're ignoring something pretty huge that was going on at the same time that I think was a much bigger factor in "killing" post-grunge than the Stripes were. That whole Blink/Green Day inspired pop-punk movement occurred that same year, from Good Charlotte to Avril Lavigne you couldn't really escape it. That movement has in a lot of ways growing right into the recent "emo" movement. Also you're forgetting that in 2002 Hybrid Theory was released and Linkin Park were on the radio more than the Stripes were.

In Rainbows & Icky Thump are both OK from what I remember , I don't think they're anywhere near either bands best though.

I think the white stripes did change the musical landscape in the early 00's. I don't think I imagined loads of record companies signing up loads of 'garage rock' bands by the dozen.
