'In Rainbows'. Although I did rather enjoy 'Icky Thump', the album felt a lot less complete than IR.

I was surprised to come back here after such a long while to discover that there had been a level of popularity associated with Icky Thump that could rival that of In Rainbows.

I'm glad to see Icky received so much love. I was kinda wondering why most people I know personally could not really get into it. I thought it was in all ways an excellent rock record.

I certainly got more enjoyment out of it than In Rainbows. I wouldn't say that musically it's at all the better record, though. IR wins for creativity and sonic beauty, IT wins for being one of the most rocking garage rock records ever recorded.

This one is forever going to be a tough call. Radiohead gets senseless acclaim constantly, but the stripes delivered us from post-grunge hell.

You can't put a price on that really.

Radiohead's acclaim isn't senseless, they're one of the most creative bands of this era, which is more than can be said for the stripes. I would hardly credit the stripes for "delivering us from post-grunge hell" either, especially seeing as I'd hardly consider us out of "post-grunge hell."

Senseless ~ Crazy, Amazing, Stupid.

Which is more than can be said for the stripes? Saying their not one of the more creative bands of the era? Do you mean creative that doesn't sound like crap, or do you mean just creative?

You can not credit them with all you want. We're all entitled to be wrong, but I haven't heard the Legions of Creed surface in quite sometime. And I'm getting you some Midol for christmas by the way.

I misinterpreted what you meant by senseless, so yeah that's fair. The White Stripes maybe creative but they're not original, which does count for something.

I'm going to assume Nirvana/Pearl Jams rip offs aren't commonly played on the radio in other places. That being said I doubt the Stripes are the sole cause for bands like Creed disappearing. Popular rock has just changed as it always does, it would've happened with or without the stripes. Paramore or Interpol replaced Creed, just like someones going to replace Paramore or Interpol in a few years.

I bet you all the beans in Mexico that there are more Creedites than there are Paramore/Interpol followers. I say this because the South exists. I'm from the South, so I know what I'm talking about here.

Uh yeah, the genre formerly known as emo replaced post-grunge, but it got passed up as post-grunge was burning. I remember when "feel in love with a girl" got played next to the one-hit wonder of the PG era, and when Dead leaves hit, they rememebred bands could be larger than on-hit wonders...like the Drowning Pool song they had just heard.

TheBig3 12-22-2007 06:00 PM

And no, the knock off's aren't played here. They still play STP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Pumpkins but not the awful **** that plagued us from '97 on.

jackhammer 12-22-2007 06:03 PM

Flame me all you like but ICKY THUMP has barely registered with me. I have played the album maybe 3 or 4 times. I can hear nothing new on it. This would not normally bother me as I truly believe the edict-if music is good then who cares about originality. However ICKY THUMP is being proclaimed in many places as one of the releases of the year, I think I am really missing something here.
