Agree with Ulver too. But for me it's: Wishbone Ash Mountain Ash Band and (you won't believe me on this one) King Crimson. Regarding the great KC (not Kurt) I asked a lot of my uni classmates if they had any idea who king crimson was, not one person knew, and that is indeed the greatest krime.

Wishbone Ash are pretty well known, they just never sustained a devoted following due to the absence of a true frontman or a unique vocalist.
Argus is consistently ranked among the best albums of the seventies.

I think I answered this before, but I will again in case my beliefs have changed.
1.DeVotchKa(They got some hype with Little Miss Sunshine and now a video game commerical, but they need more!) 2.Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer(Both amazing, and I really hope Amanda can make her new solo album bigger than Dresden Dolls, because I think its better) 3.The Birthday Massacre(I don't know why they're not bigger than they are...they have a very "mainstream" sound.)

Guess on where you live. Where you live in North Carolina? They're well known eastern NC because they frequent the Orange Peel in Asheville. That and Asheville is kinda a hippy town anyway, so of course they'd like caberet punk.
Michigan, especially the 'burbs of Detroit, is not filled with DD fans. The last concert I went to of theirs was at a tiny venue in a bad area of town and they did have an okay audience, but it was far from filling the place.

Completely true, such a great band that is forgotten...I also would like to add The Flaming Lips. They have been getting a bit more commercial but I never hear anyone talk about them at all in my school. I think that they play music that Britain would appreciate and would be much more popular if they originated in Britain. Not as popular as Radiohead, but way more popular than they are now.

I'd say that assessment was applicable around '00 or '99, just after The Soft Bulletin was released. Yoshimi catapulted their popularity and they're one of the most popular bands nowadays.
