42. Black Moth Super Rainbow "Start A People"
This is like, drug induced psychedelic moog-pop stuff. I don't really know how to explain it, but its trippy and fun and warm and cuddly and yeah! I have a feeling this is going to be one of those uncreative review sort of days. It kind of reminds me of Daft Punk, if Daft Punk smoked more weed and spent their days dreaming about the 60s, there we go. Favorite Song: I Think It Is Beautiful That You Are 256 Colors Too MySpace.com - Black Moth Super Rainbow - Rural Western PA - Psychedelic / Pop / Folk - www.myspace.com/blackmothsuperrainbow 41. Final Fantasy "Has a Good Home" Owen Pallett's solo project basically, he's most known for his work with the Arcade Fire he did the string arrangments on both Funeral and Neon Bible. The music itself is violin driven piano pop and it's a solid album all the way through i'd suggest everyone listen to This Is a Dream of Win and Regine and Better Than Worse because are seriously two of the best songs of 05. He's kind of similar to Patrick Wolf except with obvious North American influences. Favorite Song: This Is A Dream Of Win And Regine MySpace.com - owen pallett - Toronto, CA - Acoustic / Folk / Classical - www.myspace.com/owenpalletmusic 40. Arcade Fire "Funeral" God bless albums I don't have to say nearly anything on. This album is possibly the most overrated album of this decade, but when listening to it you can see why. 39. 65daysofstatic "One Time For All Time"
65daysofstatic creating a post-rock sound similar to Mogwai, but unlike the countless sound alikes in the genre 65daysofstatic are easy to seperate from the rest with their drum machines. 65daysofstatic without the help of vocals manage to be a very emotive and expressive band. They create a wall of sound better than the wall of China. With keyboards providing beautiful riffs and the drums and electronic creating a background better than any army and with guitars more effective then machine guns. Cheesy? Yes, but One Time For All Times proves to be a powerfully addicting release. Favorite Song: Radio Protector MySpace.com - 65daysofstatic - Sheffield, UK - Alternative / Electronica - www.myspace.com/65propaganda 38. Brand New "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" Brand News latest release shows them having matured in every way. Musically, lyrically, vocally they sound like an entirely different band from when they first started out. This album, which is full of religiously themed songs and self-depreciating words all sung by frontman Jesse Lacey. An american boy who tries to sing like Morrissey but is too pissed off to do so. The band takes influences from so many places in this album its really hard to pick them out. Theres some obvious hardcore influences, some Modest Mouse influences (apparent in the slide on Jesus), as well as some Smiths/Morrissey influences, they're all over the map on this album. Its an album that will capture you from start to finish. Favorite Song: Jesus MySpace.com - Brand New - Long Island, NEW YORK - Rock - www.myspace.com/brandnew 37. Of Montreal "The Gay Parade" This is my favorite Of Montreal album, (when I told this to Marijan he responded "it would be" =(). It's full of happy sounding piano driven pop songs, and funny lyrics and stories. Honestly, this is one album everyone will love, it could bring world peace. If you hate it its because you're either homophobic, metal, or have no soul (taste) which is kind of implied in the first two options. Favorite Song: Nickee Coco and the Invisible Tree MySpace.com - of Montreal - Sunlandia - Pop - www.myspace.com/ofmontreal |

36. Devendra Banhart "Cripple Crow"
The album opens with an acoustic guitar that can't help but remind me of Nick Drake but Banhart proves to be anything but a one way train with this album. You have the rocking and quirky Chinese Children, the spanish bossanova Santa Maira de Feira, the quiet and emotional Korean Dogwood. Devendra shows himself to be a versatile songwriter drawing from a well full of influences throughout this album. Cripple Crow marks a change in Devendra's sound, showing him to be more creative then before and releasing a beautiful and well crafted release. Favorite Song: Korean Dogwood MySpace.com - Devendra Banhart - - Folk / Indie - www.myspace.com/devendrabanhart 35. Stars "Set Yourself On Fire" "When there's nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire" and then the album opens up with a melancholic array of instruments but then it takes a turn and you hear a more upbeat rhythm. Canadian indie-poppers Stars create an album that takes you on a trip through the various sides of romance. While at times cliche, it never feels cheesy or overdone as they always manage to remain true to the broken hearted and love sick. Crafting songs that goes from quiet reflection to crying in your room, Stars show you that setting yourself on fire could be less painful than falling in love. Favorite Song: Your Ex-Lover Is Dead MySpace.com - Stars - Montreal, CA - Melodramatic Popular Song - www.myspace.com/stars 34. Tegan and Sara "So Jealous" This is kind of my ultimate guilty pleasure and I kind of want to put it higher. The music is so cute and precious and probably means more to me then it should. Anyway, Tegan and Sara create cute indie-pop twee folk type songs with adorable voices that make my heart melt. I don't think anyone else will like them much. Favorite Song: I Know I Know I Know MySpace.com - Tegan and Sara - Vancouver/Montreal, CA - Indie / Pop / Alternative - www.myspace.com/teganandsara |
