just skimming here but I haven't listened to one album I've seen on this list (and it's not like I don't listen to music constantly) haha
UPDATE: except Zeppelin and Revolver now that I've looked deeper |

Oh, I LOVE this album-- my first Sigur Ros album. Track 8 is my favourite and the buildup on track 3 has moved me to tears. A great band. I actually love it that the "lyrics" are pure gibberish.
Disintegration is good to BTW... ~ josh

14. Antony and the Johnsons "I Am a Bird Now"
What to say about this album, when I first heard it it made me want to burn Grace and slap myself in shame for saying Jeff Buckley had the most soulful and beautiful voice ever. From the opening track Hope There's Someone it shows to be a powerfully emotive release with beautiful lyrics like "Oh I'm scared of the middle place / Between light and nowhere / I don't want to be the one / Left in there, left in there." Now this album isn't all doom and gloom, when I have an orgasm I shout out the chorus to Fistful of Love. I don't know what to say about this sexually confused beautiful white boy, other then I thought he was a vibratoing old soulful black man. Backed by the Johnsons with his beautiful piano it creates a magnificent sound. Antony can not only make Hitler cry but he can make Robert Smith smile. Favorite Song: Fistful of Love MySpace.com - Antony and the Johnsons - NEW YORK, US - Indie / Experimental / Folk Rock - www.myspace.com/antonyandthejohnsons 13. Beck "Sea Change" I get alot of crap for this being my favorite Beck album but in alot of ways I see it as (so far) the last great Beck album. He's done the white boy rap thing several times, Guero and the Information are good but they're nothing new. Sea Change was a shocking turn for him (especially considering the release before it) and honestly i'd like to see him trying new things like he did with this album. Now onto why Sea Change was so different. It's essentially Beck and his acoustic guitar, the album was written in the ashes of a break up. Now while that sounds cliche when I say it, it's not listening to the album because Sea Change just sounds too honest. It may not be as shocking and innovative as Odelay but with intimate and beautiful songs like Lonesome Tears and Lost Cause it doesn't need to be. 12. Vashti Bunyan "Just Another Diamond Day"
Vashti Bunyan is a British folk singer who in the mid-60s had some very big shoes to fill. She was hyped to be the next Marianne Faithfull and the female Bob Dylan, but the female Nick Drake would’ve been more appropriate and not just because members of Fairport Convention were on this album or because Robert Kirby was involved in the making of it. Like Drake, she simply walked away from the music business though she only left us with one album as opposed to three and just like Drake she didn’t receive near the success she deserved when she first came onto the scene. Even today, just like Drake, she remains criminally underrated despite being an important figure in folk music, and one of the most important British folk artists ever. Her influence stretches far and wide, from Patrick Wolf to Joanna Newsom. Though in recent times Vashti Bunyan has gained a bit more popularity by working with artists such as Animal Collective and Devendra Banhart and did release another album in 2005, however i’m going to focus on her remarkable debut. This album was written when Vashti was traveling the Scottish Islands in a horse drawn gypsy cart, which seems fitting for a folk musician. The album gives you a very natural feel throughout it, especially the lyrics which reflect the outdoors frequently with poetic lyrics like "Rose hip November, autumn I’ll remember / Gold landing at our door, catch one leaf and fortune will surround you evermore". But while lyrics like that seem beautiful, they’re sadly not very noticeable unless you read them beforehand. Vashti has this way of captivating you, and taking you on a walk through the woods with her where the timbre of her voice and every fading note is more important then the things shes singing to you. Its enchanting music, her vocals fit perfectly over the woodwinds and everything else all being led in song by an acoustic guitar making it easy to be lost in the world of changing seasons, lost loves and European fields she paints for you. Favorite Song: Swallow Song MySpace.com - Vashti Bunyan - Edinburgh, Scotland - Indie / Folk - www.myspace.com/realvashtibunyan I'm having a crisis picking album 11 =(. I want my top 10 to be perfect and I have 11 perfect albums here and I don't know which one to give the boot. |

Okay decided on it.
11. Modest Mouse "The Lonesome Crowded West" Straight out of some Washington shed Modest Mouse kicked onto the scene playing angsty, screaming, bizzare rhythmed, oddly chorded (bear with me here, I have to make up these words as I go along) indie-rock combining the bizarre pop instincts of Built to Spill with the ferocity of Pixies. As soon as the album kicks in with Isaac Brock howling "From the top of the ocean, yeah / From the bottom of the sky, goddamn" you know you're in for a treat. Modest Mouse showcase everything in this album, their angry side to their more melodic side with lyrical beauty that often goes unnoticed. "I was in heaven, I was in hell / Believe in neither but fear them as well."
