Legallity Advice Needed

Hi all,

I run a non profit small animal rescue and have been looking for ways to fundraise for my organization. I have an idea that I think would work really well but I want to do things right. I have been searching to find out if this is legal or not and can not find anything about it.

In any event my idea is to creat a mix music CD full of all of the songs that pertain to my theme. I would of course purchase the music legally.

Then I would ask for $X amount of donation. Then as a FREE thank you gift for your generous donation I would send out a copy of the mix CD. Since it is technically not illegal to gift music to your friends as say a birthday gift then I don't see how it could be illegal to gift the music to people who donate as an appreciation for the donation.

What do you all think? Or can anyone point me in the right direction to find out the right answer? I have been searching for several days now trying to find out if I can do this or not.

Thanks for helping out.

I dont believe there is anything illegal about it, just seems like a slow way of getting support or money.

Technically you are making a profit because that's what will be going to the charity in the first place. Unless you can get the permission from the artist , the publishers , the songwriters AND the record companies i'd suggest baking cakes instead.

And if you make them space cakes...I'll buy a dozen!

Cakes are good. Better than alota cd's.

Ya this isn't legit, otherwise every puppy loving, peace wanting, tree hugger in the world would be selling Lennon's music mixes. If you used unsigned artist, you could get away with this.

I feel the urge to make a Yoko joke.

Charge $30 for people to be able to hear it

It's what John would have wanted.
