music snob

A person who believes s/he has a more refined taste in music and has much more knowledge in the field of music in general. Every song and genre is unacceptable unless the snob happens to like it, then it is absolute perfection. Music snobs feel obligated to enlighten everyone with unwelcome critiques and irrelivant musical trivia.

Person 1: That ******* turns her nose up at anything that isn't part of her narrow, carefully hand picked library of music.
Person 2: Music snob?
Person 1: Definitely.

An especially irritating breed of tool, the music snob is a self described authority on what is or is not "good" music. The genre is irrelavant, as music snobs somehow confuse their subjective opinions with objective concrete facts across all genres of music. The music snob is quick to write off your taste in music, and often spout proudly a large number of "better" unknown and/or less "commercial" bands that if you had as good of taste as they did, you would already know about and love. The music snob can be found at low budget local record stores, probably arguing with a clerk about how no good bands cds are for sale. The music snob often prides themselves on their, again, self described "non-conformist" ; interests, and everyone else is merely a braindead product of MTV. The music snob fails to realize the definition of the word opinion: 1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal., and instead dilludes themselves into thinking that their opinions are more valid than those of anyone whos differ.

Music Snob: Oh my god, is that (insert band here), they suck, they are totally (insert bizzare music sub-genre) not real (insert music genre). If you werent such a sheep youd listen to (insert 1, to an indefinate number of obscure/unpopular bands).

Person#2: Wow you are one annoying ***got ass music snob, why dont you go choke on a **** and die while listening to (insert a likely crappy band they mentioned) you ass sucking bitch ****.

To be fair, most of the people bashing Dream Theater said things along the lines of "Good musicians, too bad they make such robotic noodley shit."

we've had this thread already.. in which (if i remember rightly) most members admitted to full-on music snobbery :P

My definition of 'music snob'

Someone who criticizes the bands YOU like.

I do find it kind of funny that it's perfectly ok to bash the likes of Avril Lavigne , Britney Spears , Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance because obviously those artists are sh*t

Yet as soon as you start saying things about the Smashing Pumpkins , Foo Fighters and yes even the Red Hot Chili Peppers it's not because they're rubbish , it all of a sudden becomes 'musical snobbery' , and if you hate them it's because you are a music snob.

Which is of course utter rubbish

And why the hell shouldn't I be picky about what I like , I invest a lot of time & money in music & 2 things I hate doing the most is wasting my time & wasting money.If I think your album is sh*t i'll say it's ****. I don't care if you are Avril Lavigne , Billy Corgan or Ian Mackaye , make no difference to me.

Alright so then they're very talented people. How that translates to the music that they make seems non-linear. I'm very talented myself. I can retain useless information and dominate pub trivia like you read about. Its a talent. I still make ****ty music. And I wonder how intentional your word choice of "can't" was.

I mean to say, is it that bands cannot mimic them or that they will not mimic them?

So what if I took the time to look into obscure bands and hae a large knowledge about what interests me. Better music than something ***gy like the drama on the Hills.
