Strengths:
- Highly varied taste, open to virtually anything. - Fair bit of knowledge when it comes to music history and the like. - Always back up my opinions. Weaknesses: - Figuring out time signatures. - A bit obsessed - I literally just sit at home and listen to music all day. - Sometimes find it difficult to explain why I like certain bands/songs/albums so much. |

Pretty much none... that I can think of anyway. Weaknesses: A bloody lot! But to name a few.. - With some artists I like, I'll hear one album, grow to love it, then find it hard to get into their other stuff as I'll always be comparing it to what I'm use to hearing from them, and not actually judging the album for what it is. - Genres. I'm horrible with genres. I know a bit about the genres I like, but ask me what Hardcore, Thrash Metal, Shoegazing, Baroque, etc etc are, and I couldn't tell you without researching it... Yeah, major n00b here :P - Deciefering lyrics/song meanings. This is easily my biggest weakness. I'm a very closed minded thinker, and often never understand what a lot of songs are about. This is also probably why I don't appreciate a lot of music I listen to as much as I should (see first weakness). |

Open Mindedness - I've checked out everything from emo to prog rock , metal , electronica , jazz , folk , hip hop & many others by way of people's recommendations on here. I like it that I can go from listening to Napalm Death to James Brown to Lemon Jelly & not notice any difference , only that it's all music. My pop upbringing - I loved it that none of my parents weren't classic rock bores & that we didn't have a single Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin album in the house. It made appreciate all those other genres & ensured I was never going to grow up to be a classic rock bore who talks endlessly about guitar solos. Ruthlessness - I happen to like the fact i'll never give bands like U2 or Red Hot Chili Peppers another listen ever again , these people have nothing new to say and have not had for some considerable time now and anytime spent wasting my time listening to that middle of the road crap just takes time away from listening to something interesting. And that goes for the current crop of new British guitar bands , I know what The Jam , The Smiths & The Libertines sound like already , can you do something different now please? Excitement - I'm always genuinely excited to listen to something new , makes no difference to me if it's some brand new electronica album or some garage psych band from the mid 60s , I just love the buzz of listening to something for the first time ever & the expectation I may grow to love this band as much as I like I do with the likes of The Fall or David Bowie. Weaknesses Time - I actually feel guilty listening to my favourite records because I wonder if I could be finding something new during that time. Lack Of Knowledge - I HATE not knowing stuff , I think one of the reasons it took me almost 10 years to get into The Fall was that their discography and the huge amount of material scared me off , i'm worried i'll listen to the wrong album & get a false picture of what that band is like , or that I may listen to a bands best album , not get anything from it & wonder if it's just me that doesn't get it. Ruthlessness - If a band releases 2 albums in a row I dislike, then that's it. No more chances. In fact I never listen to bands like Snow Patrol & Ash anymore , even though I used to like them at one time, because their current material is so awful , I get the impression it taints their older work. I would be like this with the Manic Street Preachers & Oasis too but the fact those bands first couple of albums were wonderful save them. Greed - if I hear one song I like I want their entire discography , used to cost me a fortune , thank god for downloading. Last band I heard this has happened to : Black Lips

i suck at debating music or discussing lyrics or instruments used & that sort of thing
only thing im good at is naming the artists & song titles & getting the lyrics right

I like to think I have an open mind to all music and will give absolutely anything at least one listen.
Music has always fascinated me and it doesn't stop at the tunes. I enjoy looking deeper into bands and band members that take my interest. This also extends to individuals whose music I don't like. If the person's a bit of a character, chances are I'll know just about everything about them there is to know, or will go to great lengths finding out. I like to think this is a strength. My wife will disagree and does so, often. Announcing to all who care to listen, that it's a weakness based on what she calls, "an unhealthy and obsessive behaviour problem". I beg to differ. (She's just jealous I know more than her) My weaknesses are many. I hate what I call chart music and the people who like it. I tend to look down on people who rave about the likes of Britney Spears and so called artists like her. I hate Girl bands, Boy bands and the "latest trend" bands. It's arrogant, elitist and unfair. And I wish I wasn't like that. Especially as I expect others to see what I see in Northern Soul. If I like a band enough, I have to own the album. A download won't do as it doesn't feel tangible. This means spending more money than I'd like to and probably more (selfishly) than is fair to the wife and kids. My Northern Soul collection is kept seperately from the others. I moved it all upstairs when the kids started messing with them and upsetting the chronological order they were in. They now reside in my bedroom (yes I sleep in the same room as them) because I was constantly yelling at the poor kids every time they went near them and getting into countless arguments with the wife over, "does it really matter?" comments. Sadly, it did to me. I admit to liking some ABBA songs. |
