The Dave's Gifts For Proggy, and Vice Versa
This thread stems from the adopt a newbie: music edition, and serves as a place to hold the albums I'm giving to Proggy, and the albums he's giving to me. Also, we're making it a thread so that if anyone wants the albums, they can nab them and comment on them.
The first one is an artist that Ethan introduced to me a couple of weeks ago and I just can't get enough of her. Emily Haines and The Soft Skeleton is a wonderful piano baroque pop act and Emily Haines herself is a wonderful songwriter and has become one of my top ten favorite lyricists. The album is Knives Don't Have Your Back and is absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. Oh, and you may have seen Emily in Broken Social Scene, Metric, and a few other projects. I'm just going to use the upload that Ethan did earlier today, for the sake of saving some time. Knives Don't Have Your Back hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/0qj89c I'll have Bells On Trike in like 5 minutes. |

^^What is it?
But next, Bells On Trike. My favorite post-emo band of all time (Mixes indie with emo). I don't have much info about them, since they only released this one 10" and broke up, but I do know that they're one of my favorite bands, which is hard to pull off considering they have only released this one thing. There isn't a single song on this 10" that I don't like, but my favorites are: Self Drawn Blueprint and The Old Adam. hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?ftnbj2cgz9y I'll put more up on either Tuesday or Wednesday. |

Impression on Midlake:
The album gets very dull at times, primarily because the majority of the songs sound a like. The whole tuned down mellow indie thing does work, but not if you use that for almost every track on the album. My favorite songs are probably Some of Then Were Superstitious and Mopper's Medley, but overall, it's nothing to fantastic and I daresay that those two tracks are the highlight of the album. |

Here's something else from them. I guess that album's not the best to start with. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3LO97MQH

I really like The Trials of Vanoccupanther, I'm almost stunned that they made this ep (I'm assuming it's an ep) as well as Banman and Silvercork, this one is so much better. Roscoe is an amazing song, Bandits is remind me a bit of Okkervil River. Branches is my other favorite track from this.
Though, why does the track listing go: 1,2,3,4,6????? |

Err, my bad lol. Sorry about the first one wasn't thinking. The next artist is Carla Bruni. She's an acoustic sort of folky pop artist. Might not be your thing, but we'll see.
