Bad Albums by Good Bands
What are some of the worst albums by your favorite artists?
After a little while I'll compose a top 10 for this topic. And the nominees... |
I like this topic but I'll have to get back to you with a list of them.
|
Morrissey "Kill Uncle"
Bob Dylan "Oh Mercy" I can't really think right now. |
The solo stuff on UMMAGUMMA by PINK FLOYD.
MARILLION-anything post Fish. (I did give them a go, but it's just not the same) THE BEATLES-first two sound quite twee now. RUSH-SNAKES AND ARROWS. METALLICA-THE BLACK ALBUM MOBY-18 |
I think St. Anger takes the place of the Black Album, since there are fans of the Black Album while no one really likes St. Anger aside from Slipknot and KoRn fans and do they really count?
|
No they don't lol, but Burton and his melodic sense grounded the band and gave them an unsual sound compared to all the other thrash bands. From the BLACK album they became formulaic in my view.
|
Pelican - City of Echoes.
|
Primal Scream - Echo Dek
Worst remix album ever The Fall - Cerebral Caustic Only one good song on it & Mark E Smith isn't even singing it Manic Street Preachers - This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours This is sh*t , are you seriously telling me this is the best you've got? Beck - Midnite Vultures Sh*tty 80s pop should be left there Jane's Addiction - Strays If they'd released this crap in 1991 they would have died with all the other hair metal Black Sabbath - Technical Ecstasy A band desperately running out of steam + Tony Iommi's desire to be taken seriously = this crap Thin Lizzy - Renegade Horrible 80s synth pop Suede - A New Morning Suede had been stinking the place out since Bernard Butler quit the band. But at least they had the odd decent single. This rubbish was the final nail in the coffin ... thank god. The Cult - Beyond Good & Evil Another crappy comeback album that tarnishes all the great memories you have of a band. Rolling Stones - Live Licks Probably the most sterile live album I have ever heard Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother Pink Floyd try to make a psychadelia album without Syd Barrett  The Clash - Cut The Crap I own about 30 Clash albums , this isn't one of them David Bowie - Hours I could have gone for some of the more obvious ones like Tonight or Never Let Me Down , but this was hailed as his best album since Scary Monsters. I can handle Bowie being bad , What I can't deal with is Bowie being boring & thats what this album is ...pure boredom. |

Good calls on Technical Ecstacy and Strays. I guess one obvious answer would be the posthumous 2Pac/Biggie albums. I guess they're not all bad, but Christ...that "Duets" one... |
----Beck - Midnite Vultures
Sh*tty 80s pop should be left there---- I disagree I love the retro sound on this album, it puts me in a happy mood. |
Jawbreaker - Etc
except for "Kiss the Bottle" |

The remixes on the Shoot Speed compilation blow it out of the water.
|
Thrice- Artist In The Ambulance, so horrible compared to all their other stuff.
The Fall of Troy- Manipulator Dave Matthews Band- Stand Up Comeback Kid- Broadcasting I'm sure there's more, but I didn't both to put most of the crappy albums on my laptop. |
Did you read the second part of the the thread title ^
|
Yeah, it says "good" bands, not "outstanding" bands. I would consider all of those to be good.
|
I'm just bustin' ya chops. I like Thrice, hate the rest.
|
Some will argue, but IMO
Rolling Stones - her majesty's satanic request |
It's not bad it's misunderstood
Feel free to choose any of their 90s albums though. |

That one started it.
And I refuse to admit that anything after that came out. |

I think thats my favorite song by them and damn that would've been sweet to see live back in the day.

Manipulator by The Fall Of Troy
ever since they've gained popularity, their albums have been going downhill. the fall of troy > doppelganger > manipulator |
Quote:
Johny: the fall of troy > doppelganger > manipulator == Truth |
Popularity isn't to blame for them going 'downhill' them wanting to be more of a prog band and less of a hardcore band is.

Some more examples: Anthrax - State Of Euphoria (bad album when they we're at their peak) Metallica - Reload (i dont need to explain) Pixies - Triomp Le Monde (the magic was well and truly gone) Helloween - Pink Bubbles Go Ape (the album title says it all, urgh!) Megadeth - Risk (boring radio-friendly tosh) :yikes: i'll add more when i can think of some |
^ If I had to say personally I was particularly disappointed with any one Metallica album, I would say 'Saint Anger' really was a drag.

If anything I rate Bossanova lower. |
pixies have no bad
THE STOOGES - THE WEIRDNESS i dunno if i should even count this piece of crap as a Stooges album, but it ****ing sucks. |

Midnite Vultures, no wai.
I can't think of any albums right now, but I don't think the Life Pursuit by Belle and Sebastian is very good and they are a great band. |
I think I'll have to go for Foo Fighters here. I was a big fan right up until In Your Honor. They'd never been a particularly adventurous band but this was the big turning point in my eyes... this was the beginning of that middle-of-the-road sound that they've stuck with. I'm not saying that they weren't radio-friendly to begin with because their music has always been accessible but there's something missing these days.
