My description of the cinematic ending didn't do it justice.
It'll still be a genuinely poignant and moving moment...guaranteed.

@Urban...that Clash film any good?
Seen it yet?

You're mention of it was the first I'd heard about this film.
Anything about Strummer gets my interest.
I remember seeing him play with the Mescaleros at the Academy in (I think) the November. A month later, he was dead.

Default Joy Division movie Control is Emo stravaganza

The new new movie Control chronicles the rise of Joy Division and the demise if the lead singer, Ian Curtis. This guy is epileptic, addicted to cigarettes and torn between two women. He is having an EMO crises.

Sam Riley plays Ian Curtis and he's hot. Samantha Morgan plays his wife and she is hot too. The movie is directed by AntonCorbijn and I suppose he is also hot - it was based on a book by Deborah Curtis (Ian's wife).

The best part of this movie is of course the music - which is early Joy Division which is to say early New Order. Here are the boys locked in the Manchester scene in England in the late 1970s and influenced by the Sex Pistols and the Buzzcox.

Not everyone who suffers from depression caused by a variety of reasons, of which his medication probably played no small part, is having an "Emo crisis".
Whether or not he was addicted to cigarettes, has no bearing on the film, or his personality whatsoever.
I really don't know why you felt the need to add that bit of incidental and useless information.

The best part of the movie isn't the music, but the fact that it's about Ian Curtis.
The music of course is an added bonus, as is the cinematography, which is stunning.
They were not influenced by the Sex Pistols nor the Buzzcocks, but were of course inspired by them.
Their influences were drawn from earlier artists such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop, among others.

Why am I being a bit harsh and picky with the above member?
The emo comment irritated me no end!
Coupled with an early morning hangover.

To take a pseudo and pretentious modern day slapped arsed mindset such as emo and render it onto a 1970's, genuinely troubled Mancunian man, is nothing short of criminal.
arob...your lucky you weren't banned.

Did you enjoy the film?

Has anybody else seen it yet?

Default Best part of Control is James Cooper Clarke's poem

The movie Control, which chronicles the rise of Joy Division and the demise of Ian Curtis has about twelve amazing scenes. The very best scene is however when the band is waiting to go on stage - they are nervously sequestered in the green room while a spoken word poet named John Cooper Clarke entertains the audience with poetry. Can you imagine? The poetry must have been really good huh? Well yes - the poetry is excellent actually...

Here is the portion that was heard in the movie...

Evidently Chickentown

the bloody pies are bloody old
the bloody chips are bloody cold
the bloody beer is bloody flat
the bloody flats have bloody rats
the bloody clocks are bloody wrong
the bloody days are bloody long
it bloody gets you bloody down
evidently chicken town
the bloody train is bloody late
you bloody wait you bloody wait
you're bloody lost and bloody found
stuck in ****ing chicken town

This video shows a train pulling out of Oxford Road station Manchester.
Point of interest is the Hacienda building @55 or (-1.08) seconds. (corner building with white entrance)
Also, I'm almost certain Joy Division did the tracking music.

The original lyrics for Chicken Town...swap bloody for fucking.

John Cooper Clarke lyrics - Evidently Chickentown.

The bloody cops are bloody keen
to bloody keep it bloody clean
the bloody chief's a bloody swine
who bloody draws a bloody line
at bloody fun and bloody games
the bloody kids he bloody blames
are nowehere to be bloody found
anywhere in chicken town

the bloody scene is bloody sad
the bloody news is bloody bad
the bloody weed is bloody turf
the bloody speed is bloody surf
the bloody folks are bloody daft
don't make me bloody laugh
it bloody hurts to look around
everywhere in chicken town
the bloody train is bloody late
you bloody wait you bloody wait
you're bloody lost and bloody found
stuck in ****ing chicken town

the bloody view is bloody vile
for bloody miles and bloody miles
the bloody babies bloody cry
the bloody flowers bloody die
the bloody food is bloody muck
the bloody drains are bloody ****ed
the colour scheme is bloody brown
everywhere in chicken town

the bloody pubs are bloody dull
the bloody clubs are bloody full
of bloody girls and bloody guys
with bloody murder in their eyes
a bloody bloke is bloody stabbed
waiting for a bloody cab
you bloody stay at bloody home
the bloody neighbors bloody moan
keep the bloody racket down
this is bloody chicken town

the bloody pies are bloody old
the bloody chips are bloody cold
the bloody beer is bloody flat
the bloody flats have bloody rats
the bloody clocks are bloody wrong
the bloody days are bloody long
it bloody gets you bloody down
evidently chicken town
the bloody train is bloody late
you bloody wait you bloody wait
you're bloody lost and bloody found
stuck in ****ing chicken town
