Stop whining and listen to the Minus the Bear comp.
|
I already have their entire discography...
|
Well lah dee dah.
|
I'm listening to Highly Refined Pirates as we type!
|
Bump. Going to up a comp or two over the next couple of days.
|
yea, I should do another couple as well. I miss doing them, and I think its the easiest and most effective way of letting someone get a taste at an artist/band.
|
Scott-some cool Hip Hop would be very welcome!
|
Alright, I'll see what I can do.

THIN LIZZY
OK they are not that unknown but I was just listening to them and realised that it was a ten track comp I had made years ago and it works perfect here. Thin Lizzy were famous for their twin guitar sound but more important was main man Phil Lynott's ear for melody and his wistful lyrics. One of rock's most influential bands and indeed timeless bands. Refreshingly free of bombast and pretension. Thin Lizzy were just a great hard working, hard living Rock band. Tracklisting: 1. Jailbreak 2. Don't Believe A Word 3. Waiting For An Alibi 4. Cold Sweat 5. Out In The Fields (Gary Moore and Phil Lynott) 6. Parisienne Walkways (Gary Moore and Phil Lynott) 7. Bad Reputation 8. Killer On The Loose 9. Chinatown 10. ^top shelf. People are always on about these guys and all I ever have to add is 'well, boys are back in town wasn't that good'. no more!
|
I'll nab that too, i only have Live and Dangerous. S'alright, but i want a real taste of the band not just a live show.
Any Hip-Hop comps would be appreciated too ;) |
If anyone wants me to re-upload any of my old compilations I'll do that as well.

The mighty Hawkwind. Purveyors of the best zoned out space rock schizz for the last 30+ years. Dave Brock (guitar/vocals) is the ever constant and the writer of many of their best tunes. Perennial festival favourites as well as in house bong background composers. Hawkwind play the same music today as they did in 1971 and I love them for it. Despite using a largely Sci-Fi base for their lyrical content (Michael Moorcock has appeared on many albums) they still remain utterly out of fashion. The aforementioned Moorcock as well as Lemmy (Motorhead) and Ginger Baker (Cream) have passed through their ranks over their impressively long career. Original? No! Musically astounding? No! Lyrically groundbreaking? No! Musically influential? No! Honest? Yes! Hawkwind are a great representation of music at an organic level. They jam, smoke some ganja then press record. 1. You Should'nt Do That 2. Wastelands Of Sleep 3. City Of Lagoons 4. Hassan I Sahba 5. Solitary Mind Games 6. Zarozinia 7. Waiting For Tomorrow 8. Dust Of Time 9. Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear In Smoke) Link: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service |

OOOOO... "Original? No! Musically astounding? No! Lyrically groundbreaking? No! Musically influential? No! Honest? Yes!"
Awww, you're just being a fanboy. Regardless, they look interesting, might have to try the up as soon as I'm finished downloading stuff right now. I've heard of Hawkwind, but nothing past a passing reference. Thanks! |
i ****ing love the Thin Lizzy 10-track, I wasn't expecting much from classic rock radio staples but Phil Lynott was a frickin genius. And Hawkwind now, I only have In Search of Space (CD) and Warriors On The Edge of Time (vinyl - I liked the sleeve)... I'm excited.
eeeeeee!!! |
The Roots
http://www.citypaper.net/articles/20...17/cover-1.jpg The Roots are a super cool hip hop group that have used all kinds of beats and gone down just about all paths in the genre. One of few hip hop groups with an actual drummer. Im sure most of you have seen Quest Love around with other things. Anyways, good beats, diversity, and all around great music. I've got a good assortment of their work, so if you dont like a particular song or two, make sure you finish the compilation to hear the other stuff. enjoy. 1.Long Time 2.It Just Dont Stop 3.The Seeds 4.Dynamite! 5.Stay Cool (Personal Favourite) 6.Double Trouble 7.The Next Movement 8.You Got Me Upload:hxxp://www.megaupload.com/?d=2JXZR62A |
^^
I was going to a Roots mix before I settled on my Hawkwind mix. I may just download this anyhow and put it on my MP3. |
Believe it or not i've never really properly listened to The Roots, yeah i suck, so i'll give this a pop definitely, thanks!
Good job on the Lizzy mix as well Jack, i've been pumping out 'Do Anything You Want To' a lot in particular! |
Fave Thin Lizzy trax: 'Waiting For An Alibi', 'Do Anything You Want To', 'Jailbreak'. They're all great, even that swishy keyboard one. *proceeds to rock out most vigorously*
|
Jackhammer, I have to say, Hawkwind is pretty nasty. They might be completely out of their minds on 3/4 of their recordings but they've got a lot of talent. I'm listening to Master of the Universe right now (from the Space Rituals album) and it's blowing me away. Absolutely stunning.
|
I may do some 'Introductory' comps for noobs and keep it as British bands and maybe Scott can do some for Canadian/American bands.
So Im thinking: The Smiths, New Order, The Cure, Joy Division, Sabbath etc. Any thoughts or reccos? |
I could do with the New Order essentials as all my stuff disappeared.

yea, I could do some north american bands for sure. I'll try and do some legit canadian bands/artists first as there are only so many that I like.

NEW ORDER
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar0...neworder.l.jpg From the ashes of Joy Division arose New Order. While keeping certain musical elements of JD: Sumners scratchy guitar, Hooky's iconic bass lines, they also added sequencers, drum loops and a keyboard player- Gillian Gilbert. Throughout their long career the band have always been caught between Sumners studio band classic pop sound and Hooky's live rock leanings. This has caused plenty of friction throughout their career and the band took a hiatus in the 90's only to reform and release 'Get Ready' and 'Waiting For The Sirens Call' before Hooky left for good. Here is a mix with a few of their classics (NOT Blue Monday!) and others not so known. I have tried to get a balance between their opposing styles and I just happened to include my all time fave NO track 'Sunrise' (if the frantic beat and excellent guitar work don't move you nowt will!) and also 'Regret' which is one of the best pure pop songs of the last 20 years. Enjoy! 1. The Perfect Kiss 2. We All Stand 3. Regret 4. Sunrise (personal favourite) 5. Chosen Time 6. Elegia (sublime instrumental) 7. Fine Time 8. Your Silent Face 9. Sooner Than You Think 10.The Him 11.Ecstasy 12.Shellshock 13.Vanishing Point 14.Touched By The Hand Of God. Download: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service |
Appreciated, although they released an album not too long ago (2005 i think) which wasn't called Get Ready so they're not broken up yet i think!

Love me some Hammer comps |
Don't get discouraged, jackhammer. Keep up the work cuz me and JJ, we'll keep eating them up.
|
I liked the comp, though i can't see New Order being a band i'd listen to often, the sort i'd just play a couple of songs from them when i'm in the mood.
|
Who do we fancy next? Black Sabbath? Ian Brown (Stone Roses)? Blur? Fatboy Slim? Jethro Tull? My Bloody Valentine? New Model Army? Queen? The Cure? The Clash? The Kinks?
|
*bump*
Something for everyone here people. |
