My post that was quoted earlier was about bands on independent labels.. it doesn't really apply to RHCP. I HATE downloads and people that don't buy CDs.. but i have no sympathy for major labels... However if all this 'not wanting to support the majors' crap is just a coverup for 'im too cheap and lazy' then you really cant call yourself a music supporter.

The industry is turning to **** though, so it probably wont make much difference either way.

I'm surprised that there's people here having to pay $20 for a CD... I'm not sure exactly how much that would be over here (£9?) but I never have to pay more than £3 or £5 for chart albums, £5 or £6 for others and occasionally I'll get something ordered in which will cost a little bit more.

There are 3 types of albums that I download rather than buy.....

Albums I wouldn't have bought anyway that i'm only listening to out of curiosity.... Therefore artist doesn't lose any money because I wouldn't have bought it anyway

Albums that are long since deleted that you can only buy for silly money on Ebay....Therefore artist doesn't lose any money because I can't get it anywhere anyway.

Bootlegs of live albums or unreleased material or radio sessions ... Albums that if I bought somewhere the artist wouldn't make any money from because they're made by bootleggers.

So in short nobody loses any money when I download.

Music supporter. Lol. So anyone who wants to get CD's for free, and not make millionaires even richer is lazy and cheap?

The owners of Coca Cola are pretty rich but I don't see too many people going out of their way to steal bottles. I know that Coca Cola is cheaper and some would argue 'less necessary' than music but in my head it's the same kind of idea.

I addressed that point and I wasn't actually arguing for or against downloading. That was just what I was thinking when ProggyMan said that it was stupid to support the rich. We're doing it all the time.

Yeah but if there was a shop selling coke for £10 and the other side of the road there was someone at a table handing it out for free where would you get it from?

That is true, most people dont think twice about buying food from Tesco or having a bank account with HSBC, or owning an iPod, yet frown apon bands signing to SonyBMG. The music industry is just as overpowered and corrupted (if not more so) than any other industry.

Having said that i do think it matters, and i do think people SHOULD think twice about buying from SonyBMG aswell as Tesco/Nestle/Coca-Cola/Primark... but to make any kind of impact they also need to buy the alternatives. Theres no point in boycotting a big corporation, if you dont support the small independents.

EDIT: If there was a shop giving away Coke and another selling a similar organic independantly produced soft drink for 50p, id buy the 50p one.
