I think Crowquill, on an influential take on the list, you have to go for Joy Division. It's so damn original.

I have noticed that the latest releases on these polls are usually championed by the younger members, and the older releases are championed by the old fúckers! Things never change!

I'm thinking about going for whichever one of those three is furthest behind. The problem with that is, Beck and Modest Mouse are tied.

I suppose I do listen to Modest Mouse a lot more than any of those others.

Not bad for a 17 year old kid.

Despite my love for Joy Division, The Kinks album gets my vote.
We could argue Chuck Berry riffs to be fair. As a composite, I think Joy Division is more innovative and wholly influential. Metal is still derivative of the blues, no matter what way it's argued. Punk and it's deviations are a step further in the musical chain, and are harder to trace back roots wise.

If I listen to a KINKS album, I can hear certain easily attainable influences going on. If I listen to a Joy Division album, I can hear twice as many. I love both bands dearly though, don't take offence RT!

I don't know, I'm not much of a Kinks fan, but then again, I haven't listened to them all that much. One thing that really ruined them for me was this absolutely terrible local band that covered them. They ruined just about every band from the 60s and 70s for me.
