Not just in terms of critical acclaim, but popularity too. Which band that you listen to is too good not to have a place in music history and who's place should they take.


Overrated: U2, Bruce Springsteen, Prince
Underrated: Elvis Costello, 311, Blues Traveler

nickelback, my chemical romance, & u2 are overrated in my opinion
or maybe not so much overrated as just crap

There's a lot of hate for U2 but 'in the name of love' is a foot moving **** fest.

probably an acoustic/folk/experimental....she's on myspace if you're interested.

I'm into proggy folk like that, but not so much into MySpace.

Underrated: Daniel Johnston, Okkervil River, Nick Drake

underrated: dream theater, sunny day real estate, tokyo rose

NMH are good but In the Aeroplane Over the Sea gets wayyyy too much hype when On Avery Island isn't any worse and that album is pretty much ignored. But back to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea being overrated. Pitchfork gave it 10, which instantly makes it overrated because it then becomes this godlike album amongst indie hipster bitches.

ITAOTS is overrated(Obviously), but as a band they aren't overated.

i would say that they are more overhyped than overrated. im not that big of a fan though.

Over rated: Pretty much any rap-rock and nu-metal was over rated in its time. Gorillaz, Neutral Milk Hotel is agreeable over hyped, Nirvana (decent band but didn't do as much as they get credit for), and NIN.

Under rated: Siege, Joy Division, Camel, The Birthmarks, pretty much any Mike Patton project can't be hyped enough, and Bongzilla.

Agreed on Frank Zappa. Just owning a couple his albums covers a multitude of genres.

Overrated: Tool, Kiss

Underrated: Rodriguez

Grossly Overrated--Queen/Freddie Mercury

Underrated--UFO/Michael Schenker

Whatever. I find their music to be both boring and appalling. And its rare for bands to be both.

Urban will surely agree with that.

But if you ask me. Bands like Zep and Queen are just overhyped/overexposed, not overrated. Way too many people diss on them for them to be genuinely overrated.

Underrated: GoodBooks. In the UK, at least. I have no doubt that their music would go down well with the general public but the major radio stations just aren't backing them at the moment.

Agreed. Also, In the aeroplane over the sea is pretty overrated. On Avery Island is just as good, if not better.
