based on that song. I would have to disagree. It was okay until the chorus.

garage band. A lynyrd skynryd wannabe before they wanted to be

This thread is too broad. I could make a list a mile long in 4 different ways.

The most overrated 'artist' both in popularity and critically, of all time?

Elvis Presley. The King of rock n roll. Never wrote a song in his life. Could barely strum three chords, and sang just well enough to give us a white rock n roll idol. He was pretty lily white. Sucked for canal water

I have to think on this. Bruce Springsteen overrated? Okay. not.

I saw a couple I agree on.

Wilco - way overrated
Frank Zappa - didn't care if he was underrated. But, he played a mean guitar.

How about AC/DC. Way overrated.

Critically Rush was underrated severely. Critics hated them.

And, Journey, Foreigner, Night Ranger, Bee Gees, Hall and Oates, even the Stones, Jimi Hendrix IMHO, all overrated. That touches the late 60's -70's.

80's is just too long. It was the dark ages of music.

Every hair band of the 80's, excluding Guns n Roses, and possibly Bon Jovi, although they were way too popular for me, but, they weren't well received critically, and they were pretty strong.

The absolute most critically acclaimed band no one ever heard of in 1985 was REM. Rolling Stone Cover. The greatest rock band in America. And, no one but the college kids, and me knew who they were.

I thought the Clash were overrated in 1980, and Green Day was underrated in 1994.

I'll work on list of current bands that should or shouldn't be.

Here's a band severely underrated now.

The Hives.

There are some bands that are popular for a reason that I understand. The Hives are just genuinely bad and headache inducing. Probably the worst band I know worth mentioning.

I'd have to agree with Radiohead being overrated. I loved OK Computer and Pablo Honey, but other than that it's all just "meh" to me.

Coldplay is another one I don't get. I will admit, I like a few of their songs. But as far as Britpop goes, I'd take Oasis over coldplay.

Underrated
Brian Jonestown Massacre. I love this band. I don't know why, I just think they have a really cool sound.

Billy Talent- They can lumped into the whole "pop punk" scene. While I don't think they are great by any means, I do think they deserve a bit more credit than they get. They write some pretty decent songs.

Matthew Good- Not the band, their lead singer who went solo. His solo stuff is really, really good in my opinion. Check out his album "Vancouver".

Honestly, it's all subjective. Really. However, in my honest opinion, I'll post my list.

Overrated: The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Green Day, Coldplay, Nickelback, Nirvana. I'll stop. This list could go on forever.

Underrated: Noel Gallagher, Elliot Smith, Beck. Okay, I'll stop.
