I'm in the same boat as you. Not only do I dislike the album, but I don't see why it gets so much attention in the first place. Honestly, it just sounds like a typical indie folk album to me.

On another note, I think A.R. Kane are criminally underrated. I "rediscovered" them recently thanks to someone on this forum, and I have to say I'm pretty happy I did.

People do here. I once saw him live at a festival but walked away after three songs. Afterwards the critics were very positive. I don't get it.

I adore Elliot but of course you always get way more attention after you die.
I told the owner of my music store that I don't get the idea about Elliot Smith.
I've been listening for 15 minutes to XO. There's some nice tracks there, but I still don't get what's so special about it.
CD was 6 bucks, bought it eitherway. Who knows what I'll think later.

Why did you buy it if you don't like it?

Tomorrow Tomorrow - Elliott Smith
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tabbed by: underrated
Email: mattconnellan@yahoo.com

Tuning: Drop D (D A D G B E)

This entire song is picked very quickly, and he accents alternate notes, making
it sound half as fast as it is. Plus he has a lot of hammer-ons in between
the alternate note picking. This one isn't easy, folks.

I haven't seen a single cover of this song that actually pulls this whole thing off.

That is why.

So he's only worth listening to because his songs are difficult to play on the guitar?

You and your silly generalizations. Of course not! His singing is also extremely difficult to replicate.

But in all seriousness, this is one songwriter that definitely earned whatever immortality he'll achieve well before he committed suicide. I understand the notion he might be considered an indie darling because of it that seems pretty absurd (and it is to me as well), but the guy had serious chops in all aspects of songwriting.

That doesn't mean I idolize him as a person, but it's hard not to see the breadth of sincerity in his work.

Some people in this thread think exactly the opposite.
